SAMUEL J. HARVEY D. 14-Nov-1841 29 years of age
Byrd's Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery
Location: Pearl Rivert County, Mississippi (Section 35 T3S R18W)
Approximately 1/4 mile west of Highway 43, 2 1/2 miles south of Highway 26,
near the Cross roads Commumity
Note: Byrd's Chapel Methodist Church was established in 1820. PETER JOHN HARVEY and his wife gave the land for the cemetery on September 1, 1871. A copy of the deed and a picture of PETER HARVEY hang inside the church. The JAMES A. HARVEY who died June 9, 1848 was killed by the Copeland Gang in a gunfight in what is now Stone County, near the present town of Wiggins. James Copeland was convicted and hanged for HARVEY'S murder. Perry County court records show that HARVEY was shot on July 15, 1848 and died on July 25, 1848.) Fearing that the Copeland Gang might dig up the body, HARVEY was buried in an unmarked grave in a private family cemetery near the place of his death. More than 80 years later a record of Harvey's death and a description of his burial place was found in the family Bible of a friend and a stone erected over his grave. On November 9, 1974 the family moved HARVEY'S remains to this cemetery and buried him beside his father. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the names of HARVEYS buried in this cemetery.
