ABU Ambassadeur 8000 / 8000C

Ambassadeur 8000 / 8000C / 8500 / 8600

The first 8000 was made in 1964 only for the Swedish markets and remain in production until 1969. The main feature is the 2 speed ratio which allows fisherman the advantage in speed and power under different conditions. The ball bearing version - 8000C was introduced in 1980 / 1981 and was described in ABU's Tight Line 1980 / 1981 as :

"... a narrow spool of 9000C. It has the same capacity as the 7000 but with the ball bearings, two speed retrieve and takes around 60cm of line per turn of crank."

The 8000C was removed from ABU's production in 1985. Another reel that I have recently heard of is the 8500 / 8600 which was supposingly made in 1973-1975 for the American market but it was replaced by the ABU 12 in Jan 1976.

This is actually a AU 12 sold in the states as 8600 until the early 1980s.
