Coming Meteor Showers

 

Nov 03 Taurids Meteor Shower Peak

This shower originates from the debri of Comet Encke and has radiant near Pleiades in Taurus. The rate is 10 per hour and includes some fireballs.

Nov 17 Leonids Meteor Shower Peak

The most spectacular meteor showers of all, this originates from Comet Tempel-Tuttle and has radiant in Leo.

Dec 13 Geminids Meteor Shower Peak

At the rate of 60 per hour the meteors  are thought to originate from an asteoroid called Icarus. All are bright but only few have trails.

Dec 22 Ursids Meteor Shower Peak

Bright trail meteors are seen about 20 per hour.

THE QUADRANTID METEOR SHOWER PEAK ON JANUARY 3 2007

In an hour 50-200 meteors will shoot across the  sky originating from the Bootes constellation (radiant), on January 3rd. The source of the meteor shower was unknown until Peter Jenniskens of NASA Ames Research center found in 2003 that these came from an asteroid named 2003 EH1.

Morning Planets

 
  • Early November Saturn rises at midnight but wont reach culmination before twilight.

  • Jupiter will be a morning planet from December.

  • Mercury transits on November 9.
