Ghost Bear Missions (17 + 5)

All Ghost Bear missions have a time limit of 25 minutes. This is usually only a problem for the next to last mission, Strike on Moritz 2.

  • Trail on Alshain: "Destroy first mech"
  • Defend on Mannedorf: "Defend HPG Uplink"
  • Patrol on Mannedorf: "Destroy all invading units"
  • Trial on Alshain: "Destroy all opposing mechs"
  • Defend on Chandler: "Defend dropship"
  • Strike on Chandler: "Disable the Transport, Disable General Tengwan and Destroy all Defenders"
  • Strike on Wolcott "Locate Rentoshi's Hatamoto-Chi, Destroy all other Enemy Mechs"
  • Circle of Equals: "Defeat your Commanding Officer"
  • Raid on Jeanette: "Inspect Buildings near Nav Alpha for Draconis Mechs"
  • Defend on Jumpship: "Defend Dropship 'Justice'"
  • Trial of Possession: "Destroy all Jaguar Units"
  • Defend on Alshain: "Destroy mercenaries"
  • Trial on Alshain: "Destroy first 'Mech"
  • Underwater Strike: "Identify and destroy all stolen Draconis 'Mechs"
  • Strike on Moritz: "Find Genetic Material, Destroy All other Buildings"
  • Strike on Moritz 2: "Locate Tseng's Genetic Material"
  • Destroy Orbital Platform: "Destroy Reactor at Nav Gamma, Destroy all Wolf Mechs"
  • Bloodright Trials 1 to 5: "Destroy Mechwarrior"
  • Trail on Alshain: "Destroy first mech"

Temp: -30º. You only need to defeat 1 mech to continue, but if you beat all 3 you get more points (you especially don't lose 4000 points for destroying your own mech).

Remember: the mech chassis you pick for this mission will be your only choice except when you are on Alshain (between sets of missions). You may change variations for free, but not chassis, so I usually pick a Warhawk (limit=90T). Of course, you can still change your mech by cheating...

Defend on Mannedorf: "Defend HPG Uplink"

Temp: -30º. The HPG uplink is the antennae dish on top of the mech hangar. You have a starmate that does not become active until you power him up (hit B23B)

    My typical configuration:
    - Me: Long range warhawk: 2 PPCs, 2 LLaser, 2 JJ, gobs of heat sinks
    - Starmate: Summoner primary config

Even though your mech weight limit appears to increase (now 100T), you can't change mech chassis from the previous mission. After you win, you see a movie of enemies attacking Ardoz.

Patrol on Mannedorf: "Destroy all invading units"

    Temp: -110º.

Trial on Alshain: "Destroy all opposing mechs"

    Temp: -10º. My typical configuration:
    - Me: "short range Kodiak" with 2 MPlas, 2 SSRM6 with 2 ammo each, 1 xAC10 with 3 ammo, 4 JJ, 13 heat sinks
    - Starmate #1: Kodiak primary config
    - Starmate #2: Kodiak alt config A

As soon as it stars, backup (hit 0 <backspace>), then assign your buddies to attack 2 of the enemies (try E B21B T B31B). You take the third. Alternatively, you might try all 3 of you ganging up on one enemy at a time (EB41B). This level isn't easy; you must effectively use your buddies to win this level.

    Defend on Chandler: "Defend dropship"

    Temp: 38º. My typical configuration:
    - Me: 2 MPlas, 2 SSRM6 with 2 ammos each, 1 xAC2 with 3 ammos, 1 LLaser. Mech should have SSRMs (for battlesuits) & long range (for final bunch)

First head about 55 to attack incoming enemies from the side. Watch your heat, this is a warm planet. The enemy dropship deploys your enemies, which immediately jump down off the mountain to attack. Attack immediately our you'll get whacked. Use SSMRs on the little Elementals quickly, or they will blow up your dropship.

After destroying everything near the starting, head 110° to intercept the last 2 enemies.

Strike on Chandler: "Disable the Transport, Disable General Tengwan and Destroy all Defenders"

Temp: 29º. When you start, follow your ally Ghostbear Gargoyle (not a starmate) at 180° or slightly to the right (say 200°). Several aircraft will approach from 260°; kill them with long-range energy weapons. then return to heading 180°.

The enemies that power up are all behind mountains; you must wait for visual contact to attack. Disable the flying troop transport (shoot it until it smokes, no need to kill it). Tengwan's raven will then flee to the east; make sure to blow off 1 leg without killing him. Of course, kill everything else.

Strike on Wolcott "Locate Rentoshi's Hatamoto-Chi, Destroy all other Enemy Mechs"

Temp: 28º. Radar doesn't work well on this level (enemy Ravens don't show up), so avoid Streak or LRM missiles for you or your buddy.

After you kill everything outside the castle, inspect the Draconis Hatamoto-Chi from the outside of the gate. General Rentoshi will then verbally ask you to please go away, but your commander will tell you to "... kill that Draconis scum." You must go to Nav Beta (dust-off) without killing the General to win the level.

Circle of Equals: "Defeat your Commanding Officer"

Temp: 29º. Easiest level in the whole game. Use some kind of wacky weapons e.g.. machine guns & a flamer, or try to DFA him.

Raid on Jeanette: "Inspect Buildings near Nav Alpha for Draconis Mechs"

Temp: 33º. After killing everything, remember to inspect all the buildings near NAV Alpha. Here's an opportunity for some long-range shooting.

Defend on Jumpship: "Defend Dropship 'Justice'"

    Temp: -273º. My typical configuration:
    - Me: "Space Kodiak" Reduce engine to 100(std), 2 LPlas, 2 MPlas, 4 LLaser, 2 LRM20 w/2 ammos each, 2 JJ, 8 heat sinks

Too easy, 2nd easiest after Circle of Equals.

Lasers cool off quickly in outer space, and you don't need many jump jets. You might consider switching to a smaller engine too. Playing with this configuration is very strange; you must fire short bursts of your multiple lasers, then hit O & pause to quickly cool off. Just stand there and pound any enemies that approach.

On EASY many vehicles die all on their own (not that I would know anything about EASY mode...) You will not see the Stone Rhino (dropped onto your ship) on radar, go ahead and shoot without missile lock. Kill the third "Jaguar dropship" as soon as it approaches (no need to even shoot at the first 2 enemy dropships).

P.S. The mission does not give a temperature, can anyone guess why I say it's -273?

Trial of Possession: "Destroy all Jaguar Units"

    Temp: 22º. My typical configuration:
    - Me: 2 PPC, 2 LRM20 w/3 ammo, 1 LLaser, lots of heat sinks

Don't head west too soon or you'll blow the mission (you may proceed immediately at about speed 3).. When you get an audio command to move, head 330º and kill everything with long range weapons. On EASY, just sit on your butt and all your enemies will die without your involvement.

    Defend on Alshain: "Destroy mercenaries"

Temp: -45º. Many large assault mechs simultaneously attack, try to engage them one at a time. I take a major pounding from missiles on this level, include AMS with extra ammo if you wish to live.

Trial on Alshain: "Destroy first 'Mech"

Temp: 0º. A difficult level (on HARD, for a girlie-man it is easy). Again, you only need to kill 1, but killing all 3 gives evidence (not proof) you are worthy to battle Lardog.

Underwater Strike: "Identify and destroy all stolen Draconis 'Mechs"

Temp: -75º. In this unique underwater mission you are given a pre-configured mech with 4 PPCs and 2 torpedoes (like slow SSRM4's). This level is difficult, since your mech is very delicate.

Start out heading slightly right of Nav Alpha (about 20°) and quickly dispatch the Hunchback. You can see him early by using W.

Soon 2 enemies appear to the left. Try turning around and heading back (about 170º) to try to engage them one at a time from the plateau in which you started. You can not afford to take much damage this early in the level, since you will take a pounding from the 3 mechs in the cavern at the end.

After this, you will encounter two sets of Wolf subs. Back up at an angle while attacking with your 4 PPCs from a distance. Torpedoes (like SSRMs) only lock on within 500m.

When you reach NAV Alpha, enter the cave entrance and walk through the tunnel to find the 3 mechs you must identify. You can not shoot the enemies from within the tunnel, you must get a clear line-of fire (in the cavern at the end of the tunnel). Remember to inspect each of these last 3 mechs before you kill them! Use F3 to navigate the short tunnel and the two caverns at the tunnel's end. If you lose all your weapons from damage, you still might be able to kill the last enemy by just repeatedly ramming him face on; the splash damage from his shooting you may kill him (if you survive).

Strike on Moritz: "Find Genetic Material, Destroy All other Buildings"

    Temp: 25º. My typical configuration:
    - Me: "Arrow Kodiak" with Arrow IV with 2 ammo, 1 PPC, 1 LLaser
    - Starmate: be creative, include at least one long range weapon

Here's your chance to use the long range Arrow missile (range >1.4km). You probably won't need more than 2 ammos (10 shots). Be careful not to damage the buildings until after you've located (through inspection) the genetic material. After identifying the Genetic Canister, destroy all other buildings (no need to inspect them). Use W and F3 to help determine which structures remain to be destroyed. You might as well have some fun walking on those pathways in the air!

Strike on Moritz 2 "Locate Tseng's Genetic Material"

Temp: 30º. You must hurry to complete this level within the time-limit of 25 minutes, after which the "genetic material is taken off-planet."

Head up the river with your starmate in front (hit B15B). When enemies appear, sick your buddy on them while you back up (cowardly, but effective).

When the waterfall near Nav Alpha is in site, head slightly to the right of it (heading about 20°) so that your buddy will head directly for it. A Nova appears at about 520m from Nav Alpha, so be ready with MPlas and SRM.

If you are careful, you can get your buddy to enter the cave behind the waterfall with you. Position yourself so he heads straight in; once in, shut him down (B25B) until you also enter, then power him back up and switch to Line Astern (B231?B). Your buddy can get very confused about where to go in the tight caves in V-form configuration, and may actually walk the wrong way, possibly back out of the cave.

Kill the 2 mechs in the first cavern; do not let the one on the right (Phantom) flee the cave. If you are forced to chase him back to the river, you will run out of time to complete the mission (20 minutes?). After killing the 2 enemies in the first cavern, kill the phantom in the cavern to the upper left before proceeding up the path to the upper right. Kill the last 2 enemies (the very last enemy threatens you first!) then inspect the genetic material at the end.

Destroy Orbital Platform: "Destroy Reactor at Nav Gamma, Destroy all Wolf Mechs"

    Temp: -273º. My typical configuration:
    - Me: "Space Kodiak" Reduce engine to 100(std), 2 LPlas, 2 MPlas, 4 LLaser, 2 LRM20 w/2 ammos each, 2 JJ, 8 heat sinks

First you must kill the 4 turrets that immediately attack you. Jump straight up and down using J while you destroy them. If you are sneaky, I guess you really don't have to kill the 4 turrets; you can go straight for the hole.

Next you must jump up through the tunnel in the bottom of the enemy dropship above you; it's not that easy to find. Fly straight up from your original starting point and fly slightly forward (hit J then HOME). The small black hole will appear above you. The easiest way to find the hole is to never move laterally nor turn from your starting position; use only the J, HOME and END keys to dodge the 4 turrets. You might be confused by minor program bugs that appear to let you see details inside the dropship; you might also see the cylindrical tunnel that is the hole through which you enter.

Once through the hole, immediately slide left (hit INSERT), but not too far left or your view will be blocked by a wall. You can kill some of the enemies before they even power up.

Proceed to the reactor room at NAV Gamma & kill the last enemy Stone Rhino (who threatens you first). To prepare for a quick getaway, face towards the exit door then turn to shoot the reactor (you can take your time to set up). Destroy the reactor (the vertical column in the middle of the room) and QUICKLY rush back to the hole and drop through it back down to your ship. As soon as the reactor is destroyed, jumpjet ASAP to the exit tunnel, allow yourself to drop down to your waiting dropship (hit F8 to look down), then walk a few steps on your dropship to win. If you don't make it back to your dropship in time, you will die along with the enemy ship.

Since this is the last normal level, after seeing the finale cut-scene you are awarded the Golden Claw.

    Playing the Extra Bloodright Missions

If you win every single level all the way to the end without every being defeated once, you get to play 5 more one-on-one Bloodright Trials. If you ever lose, or begin then quit a mission, your Mechwarrior name will then be followed by some numbers (indicating you've lost, and had to replay some missions). You can never play these last levels once this happen.

If you're like me, this is a nearly impossible task, even on Easy, so here's the trick: every so often (after every successful mission?) exit the game and copy *.cfg (except for mw2dif.cfg) to a subdirectory. You may copy & paste these commands into a BAT file:

    md cheat
    copy MW2CAR.CFG cheat
    copy MW2MSN.CFG cheat
    copy MW2PRM.CFG cheat
    copy MW2REG.CFG cheat
    copy MW2SND.CFG cheat

If you lose a mission, copy these files back to your Mech2 GB subdirectory (type copy cheat then hit A). You'll continue from where you backed up the files! Another less reliable trick is to immediately reboot your computer (hit RESET) whenever it looks like you're about to lose a mission.

Bloodright Trial 1: "Destroy Mechwarrior Jocelyn"

Now that you've made it to the final Trials, you can continue playing even if you lose a battle (see above). She's a Summoner. Your starting range is approx. 1.2km. The description says she likes to fight from long distance.

Bloodright Trial 2: "Destroy Mechwarrior Victoria"

What's Victoria's secret? She's a Timberwolf! The description also says she likes long distances. Wow! Why is she so hard to kill? Better include AMS and plenty of armor. After switching to Medium, I finally beat this level and levels 3 & 4 with ease.

    My typical configuration:
    - Me: "Arrow for Trials Kodiak" with Arrow IV with 2 ammo, AMS with 2 ammo, 1 PPC, 2 MPlas, just 2 jumpjets

Bloodright Trial 3: "Destroy Mechwarrior Grendel"

Grendel the Executioner. Again, I won using an Arrow with an AMS.

Bloodright Trial 4: "Destroy Mechwarrior Bjorn"

Bjorn the Kodiak. This time you are matched ton for ton.

Final Bloodright Trial: "Destroy Mechwarrior Ragnarak"

Ragnarak the Grizzly. Gee, everybody's been bragging about him, and he's only piloting a Grizzly? I beat him easily, even on Hard! Maybe this mission uses superior AI algorithms, he does seem to fly around then run away a lot.

Now my genetic material has been added to those of the Clan (a little chart that now has your name in it).
