Here's how to set up your mouse & 2-axis joystick (e.g. Logitech Wingman) to use the joystick with your left hand and the mouse with your right. If you have a joystick that supports stick rotation like Microsoft Sidewinder 3D Pro, you might be able to do away with the mouse. I find it difficult to accurately aim the turret by twisting the Sidewinder's stick, so I always use the mouse for aiming.

Unless you come up with a smooth, intuitive way to turn your turret (i.e. using the mouse), you will never beat the obstacle course in the training mission. Using the < and > keys (aka , and . keys) to turn the turret is a joke; you must concentrate on smoothly aiming at the enemy rather than calculating how to position your turret.
