Trial 4
Pyre Light: "Destroy Chemical Plant at
Nav Episilon, Inspect Firebase at Nav Zeta"
Me: Firemoth with 1 LLaser, 1 SPlas, 1 SRM4 w/1 ammo, MASC, 15 heat
sinks, 120XL engine, remove lower arm actuators
- I can not find the target of opportunity in this level! If anyone out
there knows where it is, please EMail
me!
Flame Tongue: "Destroy Pumping Station
at nav Alpha, Destroy Hardened HQ at Nav Beta"
Me: Firemoth again
- As you approach Nav Alpha, 3 enemies power up and immediately run away.
Pursue them! this is your chance to shoot them in the backs.
- When you reach the HQ at Nav Beta, disable the 4 turrets and Stormcrow
ASAP. Turrets are disabled by blowing of their 2 arms; disable all 4, then
make another pass to finish killing them. The same rule applies to enemy
mechs without jump jets; if they have only 1 leg and are facing the wrong
way, they are harmless and can be ignored while you fight a more urgent
battle. Of course, they can still shoot, so don't get in front of them,
and remember that Jenners, Novas and Summoners usually have jumpjets.
- At about 900m from Nav Gamma you will see an enemy Kitfox and FIremoth,
and a group of trucks & stuff to the right. The Tent is the target
of opportunity.
Blade Splint: "Inspect the Enemy Power
Converter for cryo-plasmic conversion"
Me: Long range Summoner
Starmate: Jenner
- Start out by killing the 3 enemy Kitfoxes. Target and inspect all the
buildings you pass, just for fun. What would you guess they keep in a Fasty-Mart?
Who would live in a Residential Complex on Zoetemeer? Can you find Activision's
phone number? If those pesky enemies are distracting you from useless inspections,
try playing in God mode.
- You are attacked by a Stormcrow and a Jenner on the way to Beta. Kill
the helicopter too. As soon as the 4 enemy Summoners to the far left power
up, attack them using your buddy in a crossfire (attack from different
angles). You don't actually have to kill these Summoners; your mission
requires you only to inspect the power converter.
- From the crossroads at Nav Beta, head about 140º to find the blue
power converter. Inspect it before you destroy it.
Temper Edge: "Defend then Escort the
T5 unit to Nav Sigma, Defend Repair Vehicle until Repairs are Complete"
Me: Jenner with 1 LLaser, 1 MPlas, 1 SRM6 with single ammo, 4 JJ
- The T5 unit is a spider. This level provides a mostly long-range with
some short-range shooting.
Trial 1
Preconfigured Stormcrow with 4 MPlas, 1 SLaser, 2 SSRM6, 1 LRM20
Sable Flame: "Protect the Domed City"
You and your buddy are limited to 85T each, and must kill 7 enemies
without allowing your enemies to destroy the domed (doomed?) city of civilians.
My typical configuration:
- Me in "Long Range Warhawk" 2 LRM20 with 2 ammo each, 1 LLaser,
2 MPlas, 2 jump jets, 18 heat sinks, armor=std
- Starmate: Warhawk primary config (4 PPC, 2 LRM10, 1 SLaser, 1 SPLAS)
- Your enemies come in 3 waves; the first 3 mechs are relatively stupid,
the next 2 are tougher but equally stupid, and the last 2 cleverly go for
the city itself (instead of you). In each case you start out at long distance
then eventually close. In this mission the emphasis must be on quick destruction
of the 3rd attack force, not preservation of your own hide.
- Start out by heading straight forward for several seconds to crawl
out of the crater in which you start (otherwise you ram into the crater
walls), then head for Nav Eta in V form (hit 5, then shortly hit A9B15B).
- At around 750m from Nav Theta you can see your enemies; they appear
soon after this on the radar. Remember not to damage the dome as you and
your buddy dispatch enemy group 1.
- After killing group 1, group 2 appears at about 260º. Attack as
long as you can, then leave your buddy to mop up as you attack group 3
(about 70º).
- Do not ignore the Hellbringer and Stormcrow in group 3, they will immediately
attack the domed city and will quickly "compromise [the] dome integrity."
There are 2 drop ships way out in the background that you do not need to
kill; I guess they must be the targets of opportunity.
- The key to winning this level (on HARD mode) is: not hitting the
dome with your own missed shots, and quickly intercepting enemy group 3.
Burning Chrome: "Destroy Solar Array
at Nav Tau"
Me: Long Range Stormcrow with 2 PPC, 1 LLaser, 1 SLaser, 4JJ, 5 heat
sinks
Starmate: Jenner Alt Config A
You may have 1 starmate. There is an opportunity for very long range shooting,
so I usually include at least one PPC for each of us.
You must destroy the solar array on top of a small hill, and also kill
4 surprise mechs and 5 turrets.
- As soon as you start, the nearest enemy on radar appears to be a turret
off to your left. Head for the first Nav point with your buddy in V formation
(in front, hit B15B). Ignore the enemy jets that pass over your
head. Soon, two KitFoxes will appear off to the right. You and your buddy
should dispatch them with little difficulty.
- After the first Nav point, head northeast and a StormCrow will appear.
Gang up & kill him. You might notice the enemy dropship to the north
at this time; stay away from it for now, or it will shoot at you with LRMs
and PPCs (you can kill it later as a Target of Opportunity).
- Back to the 1st Nav point, head towards the second. Kill the 3 turrets
at long range with your PPC, jumping straight up to shoot if necessary.
Soon, a Summoner will appear. Do not let him lure you into the open area
to the west; if you get too close to the enemy drop ship, it will also
fire upon you.
- Once the turrets and all 4 mechs are dead, climb the ramp on the east
side of the hill. You might want to power your buddy down so he doesn't
get in your way (hit B25B). Destroy the 16 communication antennaes
with energy weapons at your leisure.
- Once the primary mission goal is complete, go after the dropship to
the north. I like to walk back and forth in the open area to the west (the
one you aren't supposed to get lured into earlier), firing PPCs and reversing
directions. Don't get within 1 km, or the dropship will fire LRMs at you;
use your jumpjets (slide sideways) to stay at 1.01 to 1.15 km distance.
You can sick your buddy on the dropship too; if you keep firing PPCs, the
dropship will fire only upon you.
This level doesn't seem difficult, but enemy mechs will sneak up on
you.
Scorching Sand: "Capture and Secure
Enemy Command Vehicle"
Me: Larry's Stormcrow with 1 LLaser, 1 MPlas, 1 SLaser
Like it says, do not harm the command vehicle. Kill everything else.
- You start on a mesa; as you head toward Nav Alpha, you will step off
a cliff. Use your jumpjets to ensure a soft landing, or you will damage
your legs slightly.
- Kill the 1st two Jenners, then the enemy Stormcrow as you proceed.
Kill the turrets and Assault Vehicles from long distance using LLasers;
you can stop (hit 1) and shoot from 700-900m in total safety.
- The final Rifleman that appears on top of the mountain is your most
difficult enemy, since you're probably pretty beat up by then; you can
try to engage him from long distance, but he has long-range weapons too,
and he will go for the Command Vehicle (which you are supposed to protect).
- I'm not sure where the Target of Opportunity is, perhaps it's the little
box behind the Command Vehicle.
Trial 2
- Don't waste more than about 4 shots of LRM20's on the first pair of
Jenners. For the second wave, focus on killing the tougher Rifleman with
LRMs.
Silver Staff: "Destroy Chemical Plant
at Nav Phi, Destroy Airbase at Nav Chi"
This sounds like one of the first two levels!
- You must kill everything at the Airbase; hit W or F3
to help identify remaining targets.
- From Nav Phi head about 60º, or from Nav Chi head about 180º
to locate and inspect two Warehouses as your secondary objective.
Aquiline Fire: "Inspect Dropship Wreckage
to download data, Destroy Dropship Wreckage after inspection"
Me: Summoner with 1 LLaser, 1 LPlas, 1 MPlas, 1 Slaser, 1 LRM20
Starmate: Nova
This level has given players fits, searching and searching unsuccessfully
for the crashed spaceship. If you just follow the Nav points, you zig-zag
down to Nav Iota, then head back to the dropship at Nav Kappa. The secret
is that the impressive ship wreckage is outside the perimeter of
your patrol zone.
- From Nav Iota, head 140º for 700m to find the dropship wreckage.
Trial 3
Preconfigured Summoner with 2 LLaser, 2 MLaser, LRM10/360, MGun, 3SPlas,
1 SLaser, JJ
Cold Crescent: "Destroy Main Terraformer
Unit Core"
Me: Close-In Mad Dog with 1 MPlas, 1 SLaser, SRM6 with 2 ammo, xAC10
with 10 ammo, 4 JJ, Endo-Steel, fill up with heat sinks
You must use a Mad Dog for this mission; the idea is that the Wolf Clan
has stolen an enemy Mad Dog mech, and you are using it to sneak past the
enemies undetected.
I played and played with configurations until I came up with this one.
You might try an xAC20 or SRM4s instead. Group your xAC by itself and use
it only from close range against the final enemies when you are sure you
won't miss (don't waste bullets).
This is a warm planet, so watch your heat; you might explode even before
you go fully into the red.
- You may approach the enemy Mad Dog at Nav Lambda quite closely before
attacking, he doesn't suspect a thing. Don't take too long killing him
though, or he'll eventually radio for help.
- Do not attack anyone nor bump into anything at Nav Mu; pass them, then
head about 275-285 to your target.
- Leave the Summoner at the gate alone too; focus on killing the Rifleman
and Nova inside the gate. I like to target the Rifleman before I enter,
so I'll know where he is and have guided missiles ready (if you have any).
Position yourself so you'll have a clear shot at him when the gate doors
(to the right of the Summoner) open automatically.
- From inside the gate, head about 200º then around to the right
to find the Terraformer. Either walk around the left end of the short walls,
or jumpjet over them to find the Vent (you can not jumpjet over the high
walls surrounding the compound). Blow the vent open, then shoot the Core
inside with lasers.
- Quickly run & fly back to the gate, then turn right to head to
Nav Nu. You do not need to kill enemies in this mission; just get your
own hide back to the dropship in one piece. Even though you meet the "minimum
safe distance," you (and your enemies) will still be damaged by the
core's explosion.
Velvet Hammer: "Rendezvous with Hover
Limousine at Nav Xi, Escort the Hover-Limousine to the Opera Complex"
- Kill the Summoner you find near Nav Xi, then quickly return to keep
close to the Hover Limo (hit F to help find it). Use your jumpjets
to try to keep in front of it (if you can predict its path), but be careful
not to bump into it.
- You must visit the Opera yourself (Nav Omicron) to complete the mission,
even if the mission goal of escorting Josel Fetladral is listed as successful.
Golden Spade: "Inspect the Palace Complex,
Destroy Palace Complex if in Use as a Comm Station, Destroy Roadblock and
Turrets at Nav Omega"
Me: Long Range Warhawk
Starmates: both Mad Dogs
You may have 2 starmates up to 90T each. I sometimes get so beat up
I have to use my starmates to kill the final enemies without me (while
I hide behind a Pagoda), then limp back to the dropship with a severely
damaged engine. It seems like the enemies know to always attack you
instead of your starmates.
This is the last Wolf mission before battling to become Khan. You and
your 2 buddies must:
- Kill anything that moves
- Destroy the turrets & junk in the road in front of the Palace
- Find & destroy the power generator
- Kill the palace defenders
- This mission starts fast and hairy. Your skills will be tested to immediately
dispatch the close enemies using your mech and your 2 buddies. Remember
to only use short-range weapons when you are fighting short-range (i.e.
switch to MPlas vs. LLaser), otherwise you will heat up too much.
- You soon get a verbal message "... shield generator must be destroyed."
If you have not already done so, kill another Warhawk behind the dome.
Then head at about 330º to find the shield generator, a hole in the
fields to the northwest filled with blue stuff (and an enemy Timberwolf).
Use W, the pagodas appear as blue, watch for a flicker of blue on
the northwest horizon. The numerous pagodas are worthless. As is always
the case in combat, ganging up in unfair numbers is the best strategy.
- Head back to inspect the Pagoda and battle 3 medium-sized enemies.
You may have to physically enter the pagoda walls to attack these enemies
unless you can draw them out of the gate to battle your trinary en masse.
- Smash through the western wall surrounding the pagoda. To win, you
must enter the palace compounds (usually from the west) and destroy anything
that you can highlight (appearing in RED) using the Q button (or
joystick button). This includes the "palace complex" in the center
of the fence, after you inspect it (with I).
Trial 4
What can I say? Kill everything.
- If at the end of the first half you must mop-up by destroying a damaged
enemy with 1 leg, you can first position yourself so you will have a clean
shot at the nearest yellow star, and possibly also have a shot at the 2
new enemies that will power up.
