MacDonald and Rob Fleet - Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada - November 16/22,
2001 Marie Poyner and Chris - Manchester, England - October 6/13, 2001 mpoyner@macclesfield.ac.uk We stayed in Lisbon for a week and there is so much to do we haven't had a chance to do everything. The apartment is excellent. It's so peaceful and has everything you need. The shopping centre is very handy and the metro makes finding your way around the city so much easier. My favorite places that we've visited are the Castle of St. Jorge, the Sé and Belém is definitely worth a visit. Lisbon is shopping heaven. Baixa, Chiado, the Amoreiras and Colombo are all really good. Colombo is amazing as it has shops, cinemas, loads of restaurants. If you fancy a drink or two I would recommend "Cervejaria da Trindade" in Bairro Alto. It's beautiful inside and you can enjoy a beer in relaxed surroundings. The Park of Nations is also worth seeing as it shows you ocean life around the world. The otters and penguins are really henny. It's also a nice place to relax near the river. Before coming to Lisbon we stayed for a week at a fishing village up the coast called Ericeira. It's a good place to go for a sea front walk and it has loads of fishing restaurants. From here we also traveled to Mafra, which has a good palace to see. Sintra is well worth a visit. It has 2 palaces, a park, a castle, an art gallery. It is worth spending a whole day there. If you can get to Alcobaça, there is a beautiful monastery to visit. And from here, if you can visit Batalha, it has an amazing Abbey to see. I do not think you can fail to have an excellent time in Lisbon and around. There is plenty to do for all. We will definitely recommend the apartment to anyone who wishes to come to Lisbon. Thanks. Take care. Marie + Chris Paola
Jimenez - San Jose, Costa Rica - August 27/September 16, 2001 I want to thank you, the apartment is
beautiful and perfectly located. I traveled alone and I felt perfectly
safe. Portuguese people are so kind and friendly. I love your country I
traveled a lot, and got a chance to really experience Portuguese
lifestyle. I hope I can be back someday soon. Also I will recommend your
apartment to everyone. Again thank you very much. Peter, Janet and Charlie Riggs - Beaufort, North Carolina, USA - August 13/29, 2001 janetriggs@hotmail.com Thank you so much for your help, kindness and hospitality. The trip to Cascais, along the coast and up to Sintra was the highlight. This two week stay was the perfect start to our one year adventure in Portugal. Your apartment is perfectly located for access to all of Lisbon and surrounding area. All your suggestions were very helpful and we will continue to explore the area till July of 2002. Eating in the Brazilian restaurant in "Galerias Lambert" (by your apartment) is very good and cheap. The same for "Dourado" further down the street name Campo Grande. Anywhere in the Baixa was great and walking around the Alfama gave a real sense of "Old Lisbon". We will keep in touch and thank you again. Peter, Jan & Charlie Riggs Michael & Karen Klarcke- Crestline, California, USA - August 2, 2001 msk@eee.org Helena, Great apartment - next to the home ground of the world's great football teams - great advice regarding Sintra. Lisboa was wonderful - friendly, easy to get around and fun. We will recommend your apartment to friends. Patti & Bruce Fisher Paul & Vallori Tracy Hannu Juntunen - Lisalmi, Finland - July 25 / August 2, 2001 hjuntune@hotmail.com Dear Helena and Fernando, We spent 8 wonderful days here in Lisbon. We had lots of time to discover lots of places which we want to tell you more: First of all: PASSE TURISTICO which you should get if you want to go to lots of places around Lisbon (2560$00 adults/week to buses, subway and tram) Beaches we visited: Caparica: Ferry from Praça do Comércio (110$00) and bus from Cacilhas to Caparica (350$00). Windy and clear, with waves. Cascais: train from Cais do Sodré 1/2 hr (420$00). easy, pleasant, nice village, water a bit "polluted". If you go to Cascais and want to go shopping, a good place is "Cascais Shopping". Taxi apro. 1000$00. Also a factory outlet: INWEAR (see shopping in Portugal booklet) Bus number 3 from Campo Grande to Colombo Shopping Mall. Inwear factory out let. Rua Padre Américo 18. Also Lewis across the street (cheap clothes for women and men) Sintra: Take the whole day!! Take a train from Rossio train station (return ticket 420$00). From Sintra to Pena Palace et. take the bus 434. "Pena ticket" 600$00, which you can use to go around the sights by bus. Pena Park and Palace 1000$00. Take a 10 minutes walk through the park to the palace. It's amazing! It's a must. Take lots of film. Don't forget to buy "Queijadas". Expo area is worth a visit, especially with kids. Aquarium is a must. Then take a cable car to the tower, go up and see the wonderful view over the city. Vasco da Gama Shopping Center is a large mall with lots of shops and restaurants. Very nice. Thank you for a wonderful time in Lisbon. If anyone ever thinks to come to Finland and want to go skiing etc. please contact us. We'll be glad to invite you to stay with us in Lisalmi and our cottage in Tahkoruor ski resort. Eliisa, Rauni, Hannu and Louna (6years) Roald Hauge, family and friends - Bergen, Norway - July 22/24, 2001 rjhauge@frisurf.no Dear Fernando and Helena, As we stayed in Lisboa for less than two days, we had limited possibilities of exploring the city. However, we got to visit the Lisbon Zoo and got a guided bus-trip. Thank you for your hospitality and your information and help. Best regards Roald, Brita, Silje og Simen, Hesthamar Hange, Jarle, Marianne, Anette og André Meland Maciej and Aleksondre Kubiak- Poland - July 18/21, 2001 maciej.kubiak@maassiff.pl
Thank you for the nice stay in Lisbon. It was our first visit to the
capital of Portugal. Thanks for all the information and help Ishita and Wolfgang - India/Germany - July 7/14, 2001 ghoshi@exchange.winthrop.edu Dear Fernando and Helena, We loved staying in your apartment! It was perfect! The room is comfortable and airy. The kitchen is well equipped and clean and we made much use of it. We shopped at the "Bonjour" grocery store and cooked some of our meals in the kitchen. This allowed us to briefly experience living in Portugal. The apartment has a convenient location and Lisbon metro is easy to use and very efficient. We found Lisbon exciting and enjoyed walking around in the city, especially in Alfama and Bairro Alto. Portuguese food is fabulous and the people are friendly and helpful. We felt safe outside and at home in this apartment. It is spacious, with constant flow of light and air. This was such a contrast from claustrophobic and impersonal hotels. The personal touch with which you greet and treat your guests is special and gratifying. Thank you for your hospitality. We will definitely return here some day and we will recommend your apartment to our friends. Best wishes. Ishita (from India) Wolfgang (from Germany) Helen Prakash, husband and daughters - Singapore/Sweden - June 30/July 5, 2001 prakash@comtech-data.se Helena & Fernando, Thanks for your hospitality and help as the guide and maps. We have ventured to everywhere you have suggested in Lisbon. Maybe next time we'll have to venture out to Sintra. Your apartment has helped us to feel safe and secure during the day and at night. My kids love having their own room and TV so that they can watch the cartoons while we watch the news and other channels. Your kitchen is very well equipped and it is very clear. We didn't have much chance to use it as we have been eating out most of the time. On the whole, it has been a pleasant stay in Lisbon with many memorable memories of beautiful sights and, as my wife would say, SHOPPING too. Thank you all again and we definitely recommend our friends who visit Portugal to call on Lisbon and on you too. Best wishes! Helen & Prakash and, of course, Annika & Erika Jordana Pomeroy - USA - June 15/19, 2001 jordanap@hotmail.com We enjoyed our stay in Lisbon. Thanks to our hosts for making us feel comfortable here. Jordana Pomeroy Edwin Pericle Doreen and Frank Maisano - Carlisle, PA, USA - June 15/19, 2001 maisanodoreen@hotmail.com Helena + Fernando, Sorry we did not meet - we had a great time in Portugal. Our reason for visiting was to meet our daughter, Jody, who had been aboard the US Coast Guard barque Eagle - 3 masted ship that had just completed a 5 week cruise across the North Atlantic, with stops in Corla, Ireland and Brest, France. We only had the chance to be with her for about 12 hours total, Friday evening and 2 brief times Saturday. We took 5 rolls of pictures in our 7 day stay. The first part of our trip was to Óbidos, the Douro Valley vinegards, Porto - then to the apartment - day trips to Estoril coast, Setubal, Santarem + into the city. Perfect weather - hot only on the last day. We will tell our friends about this apartment/a Bargain. Tim et Isabelle Elba Caro, husband and daughter - San Juan, Puerto Rico - June 1/4, 2001 elbacaro@yahoo.com Helena: It was a pleasure to have met you on Friday morning - finally after so many mails. We decided to stay 3 nights and are preparing to leave the early morning for Óbidos. We have visited Lisboa, Sintra (so beautiful) and Fátima. Fátima was much, much more than we expected. The food was good. Three days is too little time. Obrigado. Elba Caro and family PS: My mother forgot to mention we went to Alfama sector, the Colombo Shopping Center, Baixa-Chiado, in summary: great time, great apartment. Vanessa R. Sierra (16 yrs old) Ian Phillips - Canada - May 26/June 1, 2001 phillips@mgl.ca Fernando and Helena, Thanks for helping me on my arrival. The 4c part confused me. It was nice to be here instead of a hotel as I feel a part of the community. Nice to have the subway station so close. Enjoyed my stay in Lisbon and it was so hot I did not do all the things I wanted to. Perhaps one day I shall return to see more things. Obrigado. Ian Phillips Keith Brooker and friend - UK - May 24/26, 2001 KTB3EXMTH@aol.com Hello from work. I just wanted to thank you for renting out your fine apartment to us last week. It proved very comfortable and very convenient. I hope we left it in a reasonable condition. I did have a problem with the central blind, as I'm sure you noticed. I loved Lisbon so much, I aim to return as soon as I can muster the funds and if possible, I'd love to stay in the apartment again. Maybe along with a few more friends next time. Thanks again. We had a wonderful stay and will be recommending this apartment to another's. Laura and Nicky Cosgrove Dear Fernando and Helena, Thanks for your wonderful hospitality. The tips about what to see in Lisboa were very helpful indeed. We especially enjoyed feira place - it was amazing! Please feel welcome to visit us in New Zealand or England, if ever over air way! Kate Seaborn Jo Eator Emenke, Ramesh and Jothi - USA - February 10/18, 2001 emenkeramesh@yahoo.com Dear Fernando and Helena We had a pleasant stay in Lisbon, thanks to your apartment! The weather was fantastic. Thank you for your considerate actions about our baby, for the stroller, mattress, blankets, diapers - they all came in handy! We did many of the things you suggested in your packet, even had a ferry ride to Cacilhas. We finally got the TV to work! Emenke, Ramesh and Jothi Seattle WA, USA Maurice Ryan - UK - January 29/31, 2001 maurisryan@hotmail.com Dear Fernando and Helena We had a wonderful time in the apartment - everything was so convenient and your tips about Lisbon and the apartment were so helpful. Many thanks for everything. Before arriving in Lisbon we spent 3 days in Fátima, visiting the Shrine tree, with only two nights in Lisbon before returning to the Middle East. We a lot into our stay including a walk from Rossio Metro up to the Castle in our first evening and a tram ride back. Next day, we had a fantastic time in the Parque das Nações, including a trip to the Oceanarium. Kind regards from us all. Maurice Ryan and family Sally Day and Rick Kelnhoper - USA - January 8/18, 2001 sallyday@execpc.com Dear Helena and Fernando We have had a wonderful time in Lisbon. It must be hard for you to travel, because no one is as nice as the Portuguese! All we did was take out our map and people would ask if we needed help. One woman even came with us on the bus to show us how to get back to the Metro. We took many taxi rides and all drivers were very honest (no ride over 1000$00). Our only problem was when Rick had a nasty fall in the Metro Station when he stepped in some spilled paint. Even then, the people there were extremely concerned and very kind. Our tips to future guests: 1 - Walk to Campo Grande Station. There in the parking lot are buses to many places. We took a bus from there to Ericeira and Mafra. Just get in and pay the driver, Very convenient 2 - Take Metro to Cais do Sodré. Tram right outside (15) to Belém. Go to monastery monument, etc. We had a good Portuguese meal by Belém tram stop - "O Prado". Very famous bakery café by monastery. Wonderful country, wonderful people, wonderful Lisbon. We could stay another month and still have things to see. We also very much enjoyed being here during your presidential elections. Despite the rain, weather was warm also. Hope to see you next year. The apartment was great and convenient. All the best. Sally Day (lawyer) Rick Kelnhoper (consultant) Milwauhee, Wisconsin, USA. P.S. Thanks for telling us about Portuguese Telecom. We kept in close touch with home by email. |
