The Side Kick:This works in the same way as your front kick or knee but it comes from your side into your attack. This kick is hard to bring off and takes many hours of sparring as it all comes down to timing. Side kicks can work well when done with the right technique, which you can put more power into if you lung at the attacker swiftly and keep your body in balance pushing forward with your foot into him or her. As you can see from the pictures below, he puts his weight to his left leg, then brings his right leg up then pushes his right foot in to the bag.
Now the down side, as you try to kick from this position you are open to the counter attack if you do not land your kick first time. Many fighters don't use many side kicks as only the round house, front kick work nine out of ten times and they can keep their guard and punching range at its maximum at all time.
