SYNOPSIS:
After the heartache of losing the Xena Scrolls, a disgruntled Janice and Mel, separated after the incident in Macedonia, meet in London at the height of the war. The meeting brings a rekindling of souls, and the explanation of how it felt for Mel to be taken over by the Warrior Princess...

NANCY:
This has been a long time favourite for both Ewok and me.

Nicely and concisely written with a great deal of feeling, it tries to get across the despair Janice must have felt after spending all her life getting to those scrolls and then having the damn things disappear from under her nose. But instead of being mad about it, Janice gets horribly depressed and begins to think that her life hasn't really been worth anything.

There are unfortunately the occasional bloopers, but nothing that stands out or gets in the way of your enjoyment of the story. This was my favourite:

excerpt:
But the food was somewhat hot and somewhat fresh (apart from the powdered eggs) and either was more than Janice's meals had experienced recently.

Her food is experiencing things? No wonder Janice is depressed! Was this before or after she'd eaten it?

This isn't the best story to read if what you are after is some rollicking good Janice and Mel fun, but it sure beats some of the tired old Janice/Mel stuff out there where they do the same things over and over again. Oh yeah, and the sex isn't great either. A nice touch.

EWOK:
9 out of 10. Essential prelude to Who was Going to Miss an Angel or Two Anyway?

NANCY:
Readability is high, story is original, characterisations are spot on. I'd say this scores an 8.5 out of 10 from me. Now go on immediately and read our review of the sequel!
