Eye Department has been active in the mission area throughout and played vital role in successfully carrying with the humanitarian agenda of the Pakistan Field Level II Hospital 1, which certainly has earned the much sought goodwill of the local populace during the mission.

Classified Eye Specialist: Major Rana Intisar Ul Haq; born on 01 March 1965 at Rawalpindi. He is a graduate of Army Medical College, Rawalpindi in 1987. He got commission in Pak Army on 4 January 1988 and rendering his services in his present rank since 4 January 1994. He has done his MCPS and FCPS in Opthmology in 1998 and 2000 from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan.

2. Capabilities

a. Outpatient eye clinic is being run round the clock for provision of ophthalmology consultation and treatment to the UNMIL. Moreover, free ophthalmology consultation and medication is also being offered to needy and impoverished civil populace as part of the humane agenda.

b. Modern diagnostic facilities in the discipline of ophthalmology are available in department:-

(1) Refraction

(2) Slit lamp examination

(3) Indirect / Direct ophthalmoscope / Gonioscopy

c. Capability to perform major ophthalmologic microsurgical procedures involving anterior segment.

d. To carry out 6-8 elective ophthalmic surgeries in 3 surgical lists per week.

e. Removal of foreign bodies and repair of perforating injuries of the eye.

c. Patients attendance during Eye Surgical Camp (phase I &II ) 936

4. Surgical Workload in Surgical Eye Camps (Phase-I&II) A variety of both emergency and elective surgeries were carried out in free eye surgical camps held in two phases organized for the humanitarian assistance of local populace of the area. Major Surgical procedures were cataract surgery with Intraocular lens implantation during the camps:-

a. Major surgical procedures (Cataract with 10L Implants) : 26

b. Surgery :                                                                             14

c. Removal of foreign bodies and miscellaneous procedures : 38
