Department of Anaesthesiology is the most vital element in trauma / emergency management and bears the delicate responsibility of life saving and causality management. The department of Anaesthesia and intensive care of Pak Field Level II Hospital -1 was the first one to be renovated and established.The department is comprised of following disciplines.

• Main operation theatre

• Minor operation theatre

• Intensive care unit ICU

Graded Anaesthetist: Major Liaqat Ali; born on 31 March 1965 at Furmuli, Attock. He is a graduate of Quaid Azam Medical University, Bahawalpur in 1988. He got commission in Pak Army on 29 January 1990 and rendering his services in his present rank since 8 February 1996. He has done his MCPS in Anesthesiology in 2002 from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan.

Classified Anaesthetist: Major Syed Musharraf Imam; born on 01 May 1959 at Multan. He is graduate of Nishtar Medical College, Multan in 1989. He got commission in Pak Army on 07 October 1990 and rendering his services in his present rank since 7 April 1996. He has done his MCPS and FCPS in Anesthesiology in 2000 and 2003 respectively from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan. During the mission he has been appointed as the Training Officer of the hospital in addition to his professional obligations.

Capabilities

a. Anesthesiology; Main operation theatre is fully equipped to provide anaeathesia facility to General Surgery, Otolaryngeology and Opthalmology. The anaesthesia facilities available are :

(1) General Aneasthsia

(2) Spinal Anaesthesia

(3) Epidural Anaesthsia & Analgesia

(4) Reiginal Intra venous blocks

(5) Regional nerve blocks

(6) Isolated nerve blocks

(7) Local infiltration techniques with MAC

(8) Pain management

b. The Main Operation Theatre

(1) 2-3 x General Anaesthesia to major surgical procedures of any duration and any discipline.

(2) 3 - 5 x General Anaesthesia to moderate surgical procedures

(3) 6 - 8 x other anaesthetic techniques

c. The Minor Operation Theatre

(1) 12 - 20 minor surgical procedures under MAC

(2) 15- 20 ASDs under analgesia

d. The Intensive Care Unit

(1) This is a 3 beds fully equipped unit managed by anaesthetist in capacity of Intensivist. The ICU is equipped with high-tech monitoring equipments including Dina map with Integrated ECG monitoring and Pulse Oximetry, Ventilator, Infusion pump, Suction Apparatus, Defibrillator and Mobile Ventilator.

(2) The department is proficient in prompt and steady management of 3 cases of merited intensive resuscitation of very high risk, serious post operative case or life threatening medical emergencies, at a time.

e. Recovery Room Facility

(1) 2x beds well equipped and thorough recovery room facility with a separate resuscitation trolley.

3. Training Activities Following training cadres were carried out during the year for improving/refreshing the professional skills of both military and civilian nursing staff working in the hospital.

a. CPR Caders to UNMIL nursing assistants

b. CPR Caders to Civil Para medics of LGH

c. Fluid therapy and resuscitation to burnt and seriously injured cases

d. Anaesthesia training refresher course to Operation Room Assistants
