Staying healthy is not easy, considering the wide range of food we choose to eat. Learn about how the body uses food...and what happens when the digestive system does not work as it should.
PAL facilitators Chunkit, Marietta, and Yee, medical and research professionals, will highlight the opportunities that are available for a career in the science and medical fields. Whether you want to meet professionals from the community, care for patients as a physician, or work in research to expand medical knowledge, come join the discussion with the PAL facilitators and find out more!
Chunkit Fung is a second year internal medicine resident. He has won many honors and prestigious scholarships. His research experience includes Gastroenterology, Cardiovascular Medicine, Molecular Biology, and Genetics. In the future, he would like to pursue an academic career in the field of hematology and oncology.
Chunkit received his degree from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University, Summa Cum Laude with Distinction in Research (Bachelor of Science, 2000), and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine (Doctor of Medicine, 2004).
Marietta Tan is a Research Assistant in the Laboratory of Biochemical Genetics and Metabolism of a prestigious university. Her current project focuses on identifying particular types of genes in mice. Part of her work was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and the Fifth Annual Conference on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.
Marietta graduated from Yale University with a degree in Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology with Distinction in the Major (Bachelor of Science, 2003). She will be pursuing a medical degree beginning in the Fall of 2005.
Yee Yan Fung is a research assistant at a major research institution. Using mouse models, she presently focuses her research on finding candidate genes involved in cholesterol absorption from the intestine. Yee Yan also worked at a leading global laboratory previously where she supported project managers in designing transgenic and knockout mouse models for major hospitals, pharmaceuticals, and biotech companies. To combine her interests in biology and economics, Yee Yan also interned at a pharmaceutical consulting firm during her college years where she conducted in-depth research on the trends, emerging developments, and market potential of the drug industry.
Yee Yan graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at Brandeis University with Cum Laude (Bachelor of Science with honors in Biology, Bachelor of Arts in Economics, May 2003).
