8.13.02 - Way too much to list...
Microsoft has announced some its online plans for when their X-Box goes online later this year. The broadband-only service will begin on Friday, November 15th, the one year anniversy of the system's launch. 6 online-ready games will be released the same day (Unreal Championship, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, NFL2K3, NBA2K3, Whacked! and NFL Fever 2003), with plans for 10 more by the end of the year. For $49.95, gamers can purchase one year of Microsoft's online service and the Communicator headset, for (duh!) online communication. (Note: Microsoft's service does NOT provide the broadband hook up, it only allows people that have existing lines to use their X-Box's online capabilities.)

On August 23rd, lucky gamers in the San Francisco area will be able to attend Square's Kingdom Hearts demo day. Taking place at the Sony Metreon from 2pm-6pm, attendees will be able to try out KH a few weeks before its release. KH posters will be given out on a first-come first-serve basis and lines for Square's pervious "Demo Days" have been huge, so if you're planning on attending, be sure to head over early.

Square also has plans to release a Final Fantasy XI art-box in Japan, on September 26th for 8000 yen. The box will contain, oddly enough, art taken from the company's new online PS2 game, FFXI, with some created by long time FF artist Yoshitaka Amano.

In "Zany Promotion of the Day" news (what's up with the game companies latey?) Nintendo plans to make some "human meatballs" to push it's latest Mario title. With the help of Italian resturant chain Buca di Beppo, Nintendo will create a Guiness World Record 2700lbs bowl of pasta (!) and have gamers dressed as their star jump into the gaint bowl. Taking place on August 22nd in San Francisco's "Little Italy" in Washington Park at Stockton and Columbus, the contest will give competitors a chance to win a trip to Hawaii!

In other tid-bits: A port of classic shooter, Raiden Fighters, may be in the works for X-Box. Timesplitters 2 developer Eidos has announced that they've cut the online portions of the Playstation 2 FPS, making it an entirely offline game. And, finally, Activision has inked a deal with Worms developer Team 17 to publish their upcoming multi-platform title,Worms 3, along with an additional Worms game.
