Recap 15 Continued... When he arrived back at the table, the ranger was looking around worriedly at her obviously intoxicated friends, Alton was still smoking his pipe, and Killian was now reciting his limericks to a nearly deaf audience. Elwyn sat down across from the ranger and they began to sort out the situation. They decided that the alcohol that the party had consumed must have been more potent than the alcohol of their world, and it caused total intoxication after only a very short while. After they had figured this out, the pair then began to seek out the condescending barmaid. They found her back near the still, and she was happy to see her little friend and his cute little girlfriend. Elwyn totally disregarded her inane comments and asked her for another glass of the vile concoction that had helped clear his head earlier. She provided one and the ranger took it to Killian. The ranger tried to convince Killian that there was a dangerous situation happening around them, but he refused to stop his recital to drink the sauce. Elwyn had to think quickly and then presented it to him a second time under the presumption that it was a gift from a pretty asian girl who was blinking at him from afar. Killian happily grabbed the glass from the ranger and nodded his approval to the “pretty lady” and down the glass. He fell backwards during the process of drinking it down, and was unconscious as the sounds of a struggle began to make their way in from outside. The ranger and Elwyn grabbed the placed Alton and headed outside to see what the disturbance was. It was quite obvious that there was a fistfight happening in the center square. To the horror of the sober ranger and Elwyn, it was Rykasha and Tai in the middle of the brawl. Rykasha was swinging randomly, connecting her punches only rarely. Tai, however, seemed unaffected if not improved by her drunken state as she repulsed wave after wave of deputies who were trying to subdue the pair. Realizing that the situation was already out of hand, Elwyn began to cast a spell while looking at the fight. Just as the spell was nearing completion, Elwyn dropped his concentration just long enough to avoid a man diving at him from the side. The man stood back up and yelled “Get the mage!” Realizing that he was now one of the hunted as well, he attempted to flee the area while being pursued by two deputies shouting “He’s a mage! Get Menet!” Focusing inwardly, Elwyn called forth his divine powers to bend light around his body. The two pursuing deputies broke off the chase and Elwyn left the scene as quickly as possible. Not knowing exactly what to do, Elwyn made a risky gamble, and headed towards the Jail to talk to the Sheriff. It was made pretty clear the last time the two had talked that the sheriff didn’t really like the halfling, but there was very little choice left to him. Before entering into the jail building, which was eerily quiet, he canceled his invisibility spell, laid his two daggers on the ground before the steps of the large building, and then quickly went inside. Sheriff Menet was calmly sitting back in his chair with his boots crossed on top of his desk. He straitened in his chair immediately as the halfling came in. As soon as Elwyn began to present his case, the two men who had been chasing him earlier stepped into the jail shouting for Menet. Sheriff Menet quickly took hold of the situation and told Elwyn to drop all of his gear, including magical texts, and enter the jail cell. Elwyn did as he was told. Menet than grabbed his gear, armed the two deputies and proceeded out into the courtyard to try to stabilize the situation, leaving Elwyn behind. By this time, Rykasha had been subdued (even though it took five deputies, one for each limb) but Tai was another matter. Trained in her arts to be a deadly unarmed combatant, she was perfectly at home without her weapons. Being intoxicated merely loosened her limbs and her fighting prowess was at it’s peak at the moment. Each time a deputy came within reach of her to attempt a grab, her lightning quick response would either grapple or subdue the man within a split second. Because of this a very wide berth had formed around Tai who merely giggled continuously while following the securely held Rykasha towards the Jail. Sheriff Menet arrived on the scene and asked why Tai was not being held captive. The deputies explained the situation to the surprised Menet. Looking around, the Sheriff could tell that the people were awaiting his reaction to the situation. Sheriff Menet reached to his side and pulled forth a metal device and pointed it at Tai. The device was bulky but had a handle that he gripped tightly. With an uttered command word, the device shot forth a large metal sphere that traveled half the distance to the Monk and then exploded. From inside the metal sphere projectile, a metal wire net with weighted ends emerged and the momentum of the projectile caused it to wrap around the Monk twice over before the weighted ends finally brought the struggling (yet giggling) Monk to the ground with a heavy thud. The sheriff then scanned the crowd and picked out the face of Alton and had him follow back to the jail with Tai in tow; muttering under his breath the whole time. The ranger followed at a discreet distance while Killian was in the process of “thanking” the pretty lady who supposedly bought him the vile drink that cleared his head. |
