The Romanian gymnast, Nadia Komaneci, described by some as the "fairy of sport, grace and beauty" became first athlete ever to be awarded 10 points in gymnastics. As a result of her five medals (three of which were gold), she was declared the best woman gymnast by the world press. The tremendous praise she was accorded all round meant that the Romanian postal authorities had to commemorate her achievement in a special way. Romania released this stamp in honour of Nadia in 1976.
