SSVK & NATURAL RESOURCES
Control or ownership of natural resources is crucial to empowering marginalised people.

To bring about change SSVK is:
-creating awareness of the local environment
-providing legal education on rights/entitlements
-campaigning for right to information
-creating ways of generating income with new access to land and water resources

The issues include:
-land reforms are not being implemented
-land redistribution is not being enforced
-title holders are being displaced
-illegal encroachment
-lack of security of tenure
-landless labour
-seasonal migration
-displacement of flood affected
-water bourne disease
"It is indeed ironical that the Mallahs, the Mushars and others belonging to the poorer sections of society work as labourers in the ponds supposedly owned by them. We are challenging this, " says Deepak Bharti of the Lok Sakti Sangathan..."

"In one block of Jhanjharpur in Madhubani district alone the Mallahs and the Mushars have taken control of 32 government ponds near their villages in one year."
