In Memory Of Robert C. Rockhold

This was written for Rocky's service by his niece Lola

Robert was known to most as Rocky, to his family he was called Bobby, or uncle Bobby.

Rocky was born on July 18, 1926, the youngest and only boy of four. He was born in Clarinda, Iowa. He grew up in Lincoln Ne.

Rocky was wild one, he loved anything he could make go fast such as hot rod cars, motorcycles. In June of 94 he won a trophy for motorcycle racing he was in his late 60’s and he was the oldest one in the race by 20 years. He loved big trucks and became a truck driver over the United States. He was also an accomplished musician. He loved that country music and Blue Grass.

He put together a Blue Grass band when he was in his late sixties and Called the band “Rocky and the Old Timers.” They were pretty popular in the High Desert.

His oldest sister Margaret Bernice Metcalf has many fond memories of her baby brother. When Rocky was 12 or 13 he won a pony at butchers picnic, oh he loved that pony, but the funniest thing was the only way he could ride it was to sit on it backwards.

Evelyn Wilkes 2nd to oldest sister, remembers when their mother would get him up to go to school he would go sit in a rocking chair next to the pot belly stove and say he didn’t want to go to school cause it was too cold. His mother being all of 4’ 10 about ninety pounds would get a stick and chase him out the door. He'd then go to margarets house and play with her kids.

Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am the song that will never end.

I am the love of family and friend.

I am the child who has come to rest

In the arms of the Father who knows him best.

When you see the sunset fair,

I am the scented evening air.

I am the joy of a task well done.

I am the glow of the setting sun.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there, I did not die!

Rocky was such a wonderful man. I don't think he ever met anyone who didn't like him. He was very talented he played an assortment of musical instruments. We all loved sitting around for hours listening to him play. He lived in Colorado a lot of his life. But was living in California for quite a few years. I remember him saying that no place ever felt like home til he found his place in the California desert. Which was perfect for his son and I, We were lucky enough to be able to spend about ten years living next door to him and his wife. He moved back to Colorado, and thats where he was when God called him home. His wife decided to bring him home to California , back to the place that felt like home to him.
