Important Characters: Kenji (Tracie Sketcher)

Last time, Satoshi and Kasumi were plummeting to Earth in a quickly falling blimp. They crash-land on Bontan Island, an island with a beach and a theme park, Pokemon Park. The kids go to a beach to find some punks beating up on a Lapras. Satoshi and Kasumi are about to fight them when Kenji, a Pokemon Watcher, intervenes. Pikachu shocks the punks while Kenji comments on the good condition Pikachu's in. Lapras is brought to Nurse Joi who looks after Lapras as Kenji introduces himself to Satoshi as a Pokemon Watcher. At the center, Satoshi sees a poster for the Orange League and decides to compete in the league (after asking Dr. Ookido if he can wait to give him the GS Ball until after he's competed in the Orange League).

The Rocket Dan decide to steal Lapras. After using Matadogasu to cause a smoke screen, they escape with Lapras in bonds. Using Kenji's Konpan, Satoshi catches up with the getaway truck and frees Lapras. Lapras and Satoshi roll off a cliff and land on the water. Not sure of their fate, Kasumi and Kenji look on the horizon. Suddenly, Satoshi comes riding in on Lapras, having caught the pokemon. Safe and sound, the trio ride Lapras to the next island and the first gym leader.

*Well, here it is, the first episode with Kenji (aka Tracie Sketcher...what a horrible name!). We got to hear Kenji's dubbed voice, and it's obnoxious! Kenji's a big weenie (his only redeeming quality is that he has Chichiri's and Kouji's seiyuu), and an even bigger one in the dub...

*This also marks the episode that has the new dub opening, Pokemon World. It retains some of the footage from the second Japanese opening ("Rivals") but also episode clips from the second Yamato/Kosaburo episode. It sounds like the singers are trying to rap but fail miserably. I never liked the first dub OP, but after hearing this...

*Notice the two girls who greeted Satoshi and Kasumi? Kind of scantily clad, ne?

*When Kenji first sees Nyasu, Nyasu actually does talk about needing his manager before an interview.

*Kojirou actually does drive on the left side of the truck (4Kids didn't flip the image).

*The poster for the Orange League was left untouched! Not a single bit of Japanese was on the poster, so there was none for 4Kids to cover.

Pocket Monsters was not created by me. It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and the crew at TV-Tokyo. Pokemon is (c) Game Freak, Nintendo, 4Kids Productions, Hasbro, Bandai, and a ton of other companies. When you have a popular anime like Pokemon, lots of people own it so it's impossible to list every company who owns a piece of Pokemon. No infringement of copyrights is meant by the creation of the web site. All images were gotten from official websites (Nintendo, TV-Tokyo, etc.) unless otherwise noted (I don't steal images from other sites!).
