The 1997 traditional Leek Club Day procession passing the monument. This unique event gathers the Sunday Schools of the area for a joint service in the Market Place followed by a procession around the town

Leek, the nearest town to Back Lane Farm, evolved as a mill town during the Industrial Revolution and retains many of the buildings of that era. William Morris, founder of the arts & crafts movement of the last century visited to learn how to use natural dyes. He and his contempories left their mark.

During the Napoleonic Wars Leek was a parole town for French prisoners of war. Many settled in the area and there are still people in Leek descended from these men. Like many English towns Leek has an interesting history once you scratch the surface.
