The Roaches - so named after the French word for rock by French prisoners of war - is a wild area of moor and out cropping sandstone.
Scholars who have read 'Sir Gwain and the Green Knight' will know that it was on the Roaches at Ludd's Church that Sir Gwain eventually found and slew the Green Knight
