Fanbus for Dummies: Part 2

Shall we start?:
Because i wanted a thinner device, I decided that i would just the top of the hobby box as an encasement.  That would mean i wouldnt have a lot of space to work with, but i'll manage.

I used my white wires in lou of black and red for, of course red.  The first thing to do is to solder about 2 inch of wire to each of the spring clips. Making sure that the red wire goes on the red clips and the black wires (white in my case) goes on the black clips. This is very important, dont get the wires mixed up with the wrong clips, as it may damage your fans or computer.

This picture shows what you should have so far.  Notice that the black (white) wires and red wires are soldered to their right spring clips. 

After the soldering, put the heatshrink over the wires and cover the soldered area.  The steal you're mom's blow dryer, set it on high and blast away at the heatshrink till it shrinks snuggly around the wire and the soldered area. Being a pimp that i am, i went the easy way with a lighter.  Just make sure you dont put the flame on too long as it will melt the tubbing very fast.

Bend it, dont break it!
Remember that i was aimig for thinness.  So the next step would to be GENTLY bend the metal prongs ( i think that's what you call them) down. This will be a tough part as the wires will all be getting in the way, but it's do-able.

You're almost done.  Group all the same color wires together.  Then cut a long peice of wire about 10 inches or however long you need from each of the colors you're using. These long wires will be soldered (or connected in some way) to the grouped wires attached to the spring clips. Black (white) wires with be soldered to the black (white) group and red will be soldered to the red group.

The picture shows how the wires look when everything is in place.  Notice how everything is grouped and soldered together, then covered with more shrink tubbing.  See the hobby box top in the background?  That will be screwed to the spring clips and hide the wires from view.
