When Bruce Wayne saw his parents brutally murdered by Joe Chill as a child, he made a vow to avenge their deaths. He lived up to that vow, training himself to the height of physical and mental perfection. He then donned the mantle of the bat and waged war upon criminals. Sometime during that period, he fell in love with Selina Kyle and ended up marrying her. When their child, Helena, was born, he retired from super-heroics and became the police commissioner of Gotham City. Years later, he was killed when a man he imprisoned years ago was given sorcerous power. Batman sacrificed himself to stop the madman from destroying Gotham. Unfortunately, due to the Crisis, the golden age Batman was wiped from existance along with his daughter, a grown up Dick Grayson, Selena Wayne, and his faithful butler, Alfred Beagle.
