| Before he joined with Batman, Dick Grayson was
part of his family's acrobatic troupe, the Flying Graysons, learning the trapeze and wire
walking at a very early age. While on tour in Gotham City, 9 year old Dick overheard
Anthony Zucco, a major crimelord, threaten the performers unless the circus' owner paid
extortion money. The owner refused, and that night Dick witnessed his parents fall to
their deaths as the high wire they were performing on snapped. Bruce Wayne was in the
audience at the time of the murder, and investigated it as Batman. He also took young Dick
in as his ward. When Dick discovered Bruce was really Batman, he insisted on being his
partner, and thus Batman and Robin came to be. Later on Robin became the leader of the
Teen Titans, (New Titans), then, outgrew them No longer relying on Batman, and disagreeing
with his crimefighting methodology, he became Nightwing. Since then, he has left the
Titans behind, and filled in for Batman in the Batman costume when Batman was injured
(Knight Fall Series). He also formed an alliance with the current Robin. |
