Programme
Development
While
it is vital that training develops and improves craft skills, on request IBToC
trainers are prepared to consult on the best and most efficient ways to meet audience
needs and expectations.
To
that end, we work with management, the creative leadership of the programming
and, eventually, the entire staff to:
Step
#1:
Analyze
the audience. Determine the best way to meet its needs and expectations. Where
necessary, assist with audience research.
Step
#2:
Define
the mission and vision of the programming. How can it meet audience needs
and expectations? How will a successful programme look, sound and feel? How
will the programmers know when it's successful?
Step
#3:
Define
and develop the character and style, the soul, the core values, the voice
of the programming. Define those elements that will make the audience want
to tune in.
Step
#4:
Examine
the organization and makeup of the production team. Review individual skills,
methodology and behaviour. Pinpoint organizational and/or professional weaknesses.
At
the end of the process, trainers meet with management and the creative leaders
of the programming to design the elements of future programming.
The
process usually results in agreement on:
- How
programming can be improved by better relating to the community
- How
individual and programme success and failure should be judged and handled
- Ways
of consultation, both up and down
- Operational
methods and structures.
The
training plan is formed and polished by this consultative process. It defines
staff and organizational needs, strengths and weakness and enables trainers
to design tailor-made solutions to problems.
Just
as important, it also makes partners of everyone involved in the programming,
gives them a stake, makes them eager to stretch themselves, contribute and succeed.
