Dimension 1982
Internet Edition December 1999

We're Back!!!

After a two-year hiatus, Dimension '82 is back. The idea to publish a newsletter was hatched when 15th year reunion plans were made for La Salette High School Batch 1982. Nek, who was fondly called Iska by classmates, thought of publishing a newsletter as a contribution to the group's effort to update the rest of the class about the reunion. Distance was her biggest foe in distribution, she being in Los Angeles while preparations were in Santiago, but as it turned out, Dimension '82 became a medium for the class to keep in touch.

By the third issue, Nek got in touch with Higee, who had just started a personal web page. He enthusiastically obliged to the request to add a page for the newsletter and Dimension '82, the internet version, was born. Issues came out monthly until Nek gave birth to her third child, Angel at which time she had to concentrate on taking care of the baby.

The reunion on December 29, 1997 was a success and Dimension '82 died a natural death. Or so we thought. Angel is now two years old and Nek is back with a vengeance. A few days before Foundation Day '99, she stumbled upon the official La Salette web page published by Fr. Bernie Taylor. Being the hardcore Salettinian that she is, she sent a greeting, which Fr. Bernie responded to by sending an invite.

So now, Dimension '82 has a new mission. In celebration of LSS's 50th year anniversary, the initial plan is to spread the word about the upcoming jubilee celebration in Silang, Cavite. And then possibly locating one graduate for every year of its existence. Since this new mission is not exclusive to our class, we will be dropping the '82 in Dimension. Henceforth, we shall be called Dimension, the newsletter for every Santiago Salettinian.

As this becomes the farewell issue of Dimension '82, we have decided to feature batch '82 exclusively one last time. Watch out for what we have in store for you in our subsequent issues and we hope that you will keep coming back for more.

Just a quick note, batch '84 will have a grand reunion this month, email Sandy Petines-Ramos for further details or come visit us in a couple of days.

Jubilee Alumni Pilgrimage Set for May 5-7, 2000 in Silang, Cavite

On September 29, 1999, Fr. Bernard Taylor sent the following note to all those on his mailing list.

"I got a few responses for the Jubilee Alumni Pilgrimage. I have reserved the dates: May 5-7, 2000 for Silang. I am not sure what would be nice for the States. I am thinking of somewhere around the end of August or beginning of September. I'll let you know when things get organized. "

Later in the day, he wrote and confirmed that the reservation May 5-7, 2000 has been accepted. Following, is the initial invitation sent by Fr. Bernie after our names were added to his mailing list on September 26, 1999.

Dear Friends of La Salette,

Hello and Hi! Please visit: http://lasalette.net

Starting Christmas day of 1999 till the 6th of January 2001 the Pope has declared a Holy Year. That means that during that period special graces will be available to everyone. He will open the door of St. Peter's and for those who cannot go there Cathedral churches and national Shrines can be used to be places of Pilgrimage.

Since it is also the Jubilee Year of La Salette of Santiago, I am trying to organize a pilgrimage for all the alumni of La Salette to our national shrine. Since the usual conditions for obtaining indulgences are to go to confession and communion and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father the Pope, I am proposing that we spend a few hours of recollection and a reconciliation service. I have reserved the Youth Center, the St. Joseph Dormitory and the Jubilee Center for the occasion.

A similar one is being conceived for those in the States at the Shrine in Attleboro, MA. I have sent an email to the retreat house there but no response as yet. The youth center can house about 100 male and 100 female dormitory style. The St. Joseph dormitory has rooms for eight people (double decks) with common baths and the Jubilee center. I have made a page for the Pilgrimage 2000 at http://lasalette.net/Jubilee/Default.htm

Where are they now…

Have you ever wondered where your high school best friend is? Two years ago, our class celebrated our 15th year class reunion. The effort and countless hours we have labored over this newsletter were well spent. We have rekindled old friendships and started new ones.

As we bring the year and century to a close, we would like you to experience the joys true friendship offers. This column will continually run updates on alumni as we locate them or as they agree to be featured here, so that you, too, may find a long lost friend. After each feature, the information will be listed in our directory. So far, we have one response from batch '63, about a dozen from the batches of early '70s and a half dozen from batches of early '80s, not including ours.

This is the farewell issue of Dimension '82, and we want to present to you the movers and shakers of this publication, LSS Batch '82.

My name is Nek, formerly Francisca Torres, married to Ronald Elefante also of batch '82.

HappyHolidays!

Ronald is an engineering graduate of Adamson University whose greatest achievement is marrying me! His opinion, I am the luckiest girl in the world for marrying him! (I agree, nevertheless, I'll make sure this issue does not end up on our coffee table.he-he-he ) Unlike other LSS alumni whose pride and joy are their profession, we are simply a couple of very happy and proud parents. We have been residents of Southern California since 1984 and our three beautiful children are native Californians. In keeping my promise on graduation day to cast a shadow brighter than what I had then, my work with Dimension '82 is the next best thing to my pride and joy, my family.

Higee Quintos Aguiluz, editor of Dimension-Internet version now resides in Los Angeles. He is a self-taught computer whiz, who possesses a degree in Business from the University of the East. He spends most of his spare time on the computer and the Internet designing web pages for friends. Intellectually gifted, he is the most underrated person of our class and I am his biggest fan! Higee was one of four that scored 99+ in the NCEE, and one of six with 96 in CSAT, from approximately 300 graduates.

Have you ever said batch ni Monchit instead of batch '82? I know I have! Dr. Imelda Bautista-Navarro is our perennial favorite subject. Like any other batch, the valedictorian becomes the icon. We have followed every milestone of our icon, from passing the U.S. Board Certification for Pediatrics to her engagement. She is currently residing in San Francisco awaiting the results of yet another board exam for her specialization in Neonatology. The radiant bride. The Bride and Groom

Her newest milestone, however, happened on September 19, 1999 when she tied the knot with Atty. Michael Navarro, after a two-year whirlwind, inter-continental love affair. Atty. Navarro is the son of Santiago's city mayor, Amy Navarro and the couple are now expecting their first child.

Marilou Bayaua, Director of Human Development Center at the University of La Salette in Santiago City, is our correspondent from Isabela. She, among two dozen fellow graduates, was behind the successful medical mission and reunion in December 1997.

Michael Andres just moved to Germany! He is now the Chief of Contract Administration in Darmstadt, Germany. He graduated from Adamson University with a degree in Civil Engineering. After a four-year enlistment with the U.S. Army, he was hired as a civilian Corps of Engineer for the Army. He is married to Grace, a nurse, and they have three children, Stefanie, Michelle and Gabrielle.

Edwin de Guzman, a graduate of UP-Los Banos, is in the information technology industry. A resident of Katy, Texas, he and wife, Elizabeth, are brand new homeowners. Dad to three kids, Paolo, Carlo and Alyssa, Edwin is one of four LSS alumni in the family.

Here is a partial list of batch '82 currently in the Santiago City government. Paul Silverio, is the City Information Officer, who is working closely with Higee in developing the Santiago City web page. Romulo Sitchon and Eleanora Danao work in the Accounting Unit. Lt. Previ Fabros-Luis is in the crime investigation unit. Despite her tiny 4'10" size, men close to six feet salute her.

Flor Fernandez-Vargas is married with two kids. Of all alumni we have located, she is the only one based in the south. She is the internal auditor for a freight forwarding company in Davao City. Although miles and islands away, she has not lost communication with those in Santiago and with us here in Los Angeles.

Edith Mamuri-Colinayo, who was my best friend in high school, is connected of P T & T and travels the entire stretch of Isabela as part of her job. Married to a dentist from the south, she may one day migrate to the south as well.

Approximately one-third of our batch still live in Santiago City becoming prominent business people.Among them, Mandel and Mabel Ramos-Lim, Ige Agustin, Gerry Marcelo and Ronabee Chua, who is a frequent U.S. visitor and whose beau is a fellow graduate, Hans Biltz, also a businessman.

Other batch '82 now residing in the Southern California area, include Bernardo Santos, or "Corps" to us all. He was an aircraft designer before going into nursing school. He has recently passed the California Nursing Board Exam. Very recently divorced, he has been seen with one very young and pretty lady.

Felicidad Alejo-Diaz, lives in San Fernando, California with husband and son, Mark. Arturo Caoile, Jr. and wife, Mia have a four-year old daughter, Kassie. They have been long-time South Bay residents.

Grace Sillos is a nurse based in Illinois. She slowed down long enough for Emerson Manaligod to catch up to her. They were married in April 8, 1999 and are expecting their first child sometime in January.

Other U.S. based batch '82 alumni include, Amy Tiburcio, who is a Med-Tech based in Northern California. Cousins Maricel Balauag and Gladys Coma are both nurses in Florida and New York, respectively. Jerome Gaffud resides in New Jersey with wife and three kids.

Although he did not graduate with us, he was a good friend to most. Rico Linatoc is in the US Navy based in Japan. He will be coming back to the mainland shortly.

This just came in from Santiago City!

"You might want to include in the upcoming issue of Dimension ---the news about Ige --- he recently assumed the position of City Councilor left vacant in the City Council of Santiago City which arose from the ouster of Joel Miranda as City Mayor and the succession of Vice Mayor Amelita Navarro as City Mayor. So Ige is now the Honorable Miguel Amor N. Agustin, Member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Santiago City. He formally assumed his position last November 25, 1999. Paul Silverio is no longer the City Information Officer --- he has been replaced because his term is coterminous with that of the ousted Mayor. The new City Information Officer is now Rey Andres ---the brother of Michael Andres."

The Class Directory

We have prepared a Directory of Alumni for this special issue. We would like to show how we have grown from a listing of 35 in August 1996 to our current listing of 130.

Thank you very much to our Santiago counterparts, for sending us a list of updates and new listings. If you would like to change any information on this listing, please drop us a note. Please send your information to Marilou Bayaua or Francisca Torres.
