LOST IN TRANSLATION: KELLE KO'D
After a grueling week of demanding physical challenges, Kelle , the 20-year-old art gallery owner from Manhattan, New York, is the latest aspiring top model to get cut. Even though she clearly made an effort, in the end her inability to translate her beauty into inspiring photographs forces the judges to let her go.

DIET IS NOT A FOUR LETTER WORD
As the daily grind of domestic life begins to wear on the girls, sloppiness becomes an issue. Amanda , the 25-year-old mother from Hendersonville, North Carolina, goes on a cleaning spree and feels like she is living with "8 other beautiful pigs." She says Cassie , the 19-year-old student from Norman, Oklahoma, is the "sloppiest one," and calls her a "sloppy slut."

Tyra pays a visit and jumps on the girls' beds. She tells them about the pitfalls of the modeling industry--specifically "eating, body image, and the pressures to have to fit into a certain mold." She introduces her friend Kate Dillon, the first plus sized model to be in Vogue . Toccara , a plus sized model herself, cannot take her eyes off Kate, she is so thrilled to meet her.

Kate tells the girls her story. "I started out in the business as a skinny model. I developed an eating disorder. I was unhealthy. I left the business. I gained 50 pounds and ended up returning as a plus sized model." Tyra adds, "You are like athletes. You have to work on your body. We want to talk to you about how to manage your weight in a healthy way." She introduces Joy Bauer, a nutritionist, who will be helping them through "balancing, moderation and consistency." Cassie, who has admitted to having an eating disorder, says she is on a low-carb diet. Joy responds, "Moderate. Not eliminate."

Tyra offers the girls the opportunity to speak with her, Joy and Kate one-on-one. Cassie says she would like to do a one-on-one with Tyra. The other girls leave the room and as Cassie sits before the three women, Joy asks if she ever feels like her diet gets out of control. She says she has thrown up but she did not throw up after every meal, so she doesn't think she is bulimic. Alarm bells go off for Joy who would like Cassie to talk to somebody about her throwing up and her attitude towards food. Tyra adds, "In this environment with the pressure and the critique, it's only going to get harder." Cassie is resistant. We next see her talking to her boyfriend C.J. She says, "They want me to go to a counselor for 'you know what.'" He asks how they found out, and she confesses she had to tell them.

RESPECT
Cassie makes herself some low-carb brownies. She leaves them in the kitchen and when Eva , the 19-year-old student from Los Angeles, California and Ann the 21-year-old student from Erie, Pennsylvania, walk in the kitchen the mess grosses them out. Ann, thinking it would be funny, takes a knife and writes a note to Cassie in the brownies suggesting that maybe Cassie should clean up after herself. Cassie walks back in the kitchen, sees that somebody has touched her food, flips out and starts interrogating everyone in the house.

Eva says it wasn't her. Cassie can tell Eva might know who it is. Most of the girls think the whole incident is kind of silly, but Yaya thinks it was rude for somebody to touch somebody else's food, and in a show of solidarity with Cassie puts on a T-shirt that says RESPEITO, which is Portuguese for respect.

All the girls go out for a meal at Teany. At one point Ann asks Yaya, the 21-year-old student from Harlem, New York, what her t-shirt says, and she replies that "RESPEITO" means "RESPECT", the underlying tension bubbles to the surface. Yaya says people have been immature and she wore it to be supportive of Cassie.

Ann admits she wrote in Cassie's food. She says, "I did that to be funny. I didn't do it to hurt you." Yaya asks Ann if thinks she has a relationship with Cassie that would suggest carving in her food would be seen as funny. Things get heated and Cassie tells Ann, "Don't touch my stuff." Ann tells Cassie to stop talking about her behind her back, and says, "When you asked us to stop talking about your throwing up, we did." Cassie says, "I'm going to keep talking about you." Ann retorts, "I'm going to tell everybody you're bulimic," adding that she will tell Tyra. Cassie surprises everybody by saying that Tyra already knows.

MODEL BOOT CAMP
Tyra Mail arrives:

Do you have what it takes to rise to the top,
Be ready to prove it at 10 o'clock

They head to the location and see an intense looking ropes course with motivational terms like DESIRE, INTENSITY and PERSEVERANCE strewn throughout the course. They meet Captain Leif Wade, a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps who is now a trainer at Pure Power Boot Camp. He says, "When you come across rejection, you cannot quit." He tells the girls to put on fatigues and then come meet him.

Yaya is bummed. Running around faking combat is not her thing. Ann, an athlete by training, could not be more excited. Cassie, fatigued, doesn't want to participate at all. Eva says of Cassie, "She's the biggest punk ever." When Captain Wade questions Cassie, she responds, "If I had wanted to do this I would have joined the military."

After the day's boot camp, Captain Wade congratulates the girls and tells them they will be seeing him soon. The girls leave, drive to another location, walk in the door and who is there but Captain Wade…again! He tells them their challenge will be to run to the top of a 14-story building. Whoever gets to the top first will be the winner.

We see the girls motor up the stairs, some struggling, some straggling, others taking them two at a time. Just as they feel the relief of peaking at the top of the climb they are greeted by Captain Wade who tells them that now, winded and exhausted, they have to do a photo shoot. Eva can barely breathe but she somehow pulls it together. Nearly all the girls have a similar reaction; Toccara just repeats "no," but knows the importance of taking a good picture, even if she feels like she was just kicked in the stomach.

Captain Wade congratulates the girls that none of them quit and then reads off the final times. Kelle comes in ninth, followed by Norelle , the 19-year-old sales associate from Newport Beach, California, and Toccara. Amanda is the sixth person to make it to the top of the 14 floors, placing her just behind Cassie. Nicole , the 21-year-old former punk rocker from Minot, North Dakota places fourth, Eva comes in third. This leaves Ann and Yaya. And the winner is…Yaya! She is told to pick a friend from the group, and she chooses Toccara. Her reason: "She exemplifies not giving up."

Yaya and Toccara's reward for the evening is a deluxe spa treatment from Clay on the rooftop of the building. The other girls learn they have to hoof it all the way home to the Waldorf Astoria. As Kelle, a lifetime New Yorker put it, "The house is on 50th and we're on negative 10."

The long walk home is major letdown for the girls who had had an idealized image of New York. Cassie is feeling beat down and doesn't want to be around anymore. "I'm so disappointed. I'm here and I hate it, " she tells her boyfriend. Then she asks, "Will you be mad if I come home early?"

BOUNCY BOUNCE
Tyra Mail arrives and tells them that they will need to get a jumpstart to their day. The girls head down to an airplane hangar and are greeted by the ever-fabulous Jay Manuel. Ann takes one look at the planes and is terrified, recalling her earlier disastrous flight to Jamaica. Jay introduces the photographer Sasha Pflaeging, who tells them, this shoot is going to be "really demanding physically." After they get into hair and make-up, Jay lets on they won't be jumping out of planes, but instead will be doing a shoot on a trampoline.

The product they are selling is an energy drink called YJ Stinger. "It's an action shot. You will learn how to bounce and give me face and give me body while you are in the air," says Jay. Kelle asks Jay to help her out, but Jay says he can't baby her.

Eva brings tons of energy to the shoot, which impresses Jay. Toccara makes a good impression on Sasha. He says, "Toccara was really good for being a bigger girl." Nicole is not quite sure what she's doing. Norelle, all angles and bones, has difficulty finding an elegant position. Kelle has another rough shoot. Jay says, "Kelle is so self-conscious." Ann gives it her all, flying, flopping and being very physical, to the point of scraping her chin and cutting her elbow, none of which really works. Jay offers up the maxim, "Less is more."

After being told time and again she was letting too much of the dancer through, Yaya overcompensates and delivers a flat picture. Amanda then does a series of poses reminiscent of some of Yaya's dancer moves. Sasha says, "Amanda was beautiful, she showed it all." Jay adds, "You super impressed me. You're the only one that got this today."

Yaya gets back on the trampoline and strikes a few poses, and when she's done Jay asks why he didn't see any of that earlier. Yaya explains she wanted to listen to the panel. Jay admonishes, "You shouldn't take everything as a hard-and-fast rule. Ten people will say, 'Don't do this. Don't do this.' You know what you're going to end up with: nothing."

TIME TO GET JUDGED
Tyra Mail comes arrives it's time for another walk in front of the judges. Tyra reviews the week's events, and how the week was about "fitness and the importance of being motivated and wanting it." The special guest this week is the plus sized model and friend to Tyra, Kate Dillon.

Tyra tells the girls that the test of the day is their photo following the run up the stairs. Norelle is first, and despite being exhausted is given points by Nolé for being "extremely modern and grungy looking." Her energy drink shot impresses, and Kate tells her that she looked "relaxed when she was jumping."

Kelle's photos don't work out as well. She has no expression. When Nolé asks Kelle what she did before the contest, Kelle replies that she had an art gallery. Janice says, "Have you heard of expressionism?" Nicole is told that she doesn't look like a model in her stairs picture, but her trampoline shot is fierce.

Toccara is given high praise for showing "intensity" without the benefit of any hair and make up after having run up the 14 flights. Cassie is told by Janice says that her energy drink shot makes her look like she "belongs in a cornfield scaring crows."

Eva admits that she gagged at the top of the stairs but nobody can tell, though in her glamour shot Janice reminds her to stop flaring her nostrils. Amanda, whose eyes are clearly one of her best features, is praised for looking great even when the focus is not on them.

Tyra tells Yaya, "Yours are the worst." Yaya says she was just trying to listen the advice of the panel. Tyra suggests she take the suggestions with a grain of salt. "You need to be less 'Cirque de Soleil' more couture." Nigel adds, "Take your strength, your eloquence and translate it into fashion." Yaya says, "I'm gonna find the balance."

Then it's Ann's turn. She is told that she looks pedestrian. All the judges are straining to understand what's going on. Janice says, "You are working here," commenting on Ann's natural beauty. "The photo's not working."

WHO WILL GO?
The judges deliberate behind closed doors and Kate quickly boils things down. "I don't think Ann is photogenic and it's such a disappointment." Tyra says, "I feel like she and Kelle are neck and neck." Janice says she thinks Kelle should go back to her art gallery. The only person who gets remotely as harsh a treatment is Cassie. Nigel says, "Her face looks almost dead." Janice says, "She's just blah."

The girls are called back in. Tyra calls Eva's name first and tells her, "This picture is absolutely beautiful." Then it's Amanda and Nicole. Tyra calls Yaya's name and as she steps forward, "You know what I'm going to say. Balance. It's all about taking critique and taking it all in." Then Toccara and Norelle. Three girls are left and Tyra calls Cassie's name. She says to her, "The photographer said you looked tired and weak and not sure you wanted to be there. You look amazing but I notice a certain sadness. Maybe talking to someone will get that out."

It's down to Ann and Kelle. She then says that she is going to do something that she's never done before by delivering the exact same message to the two of them. "Both of you are absolutely beautiful girls to the eye but it doesn't translate to your photographs. You are the walking signpost for 'Pretty Girl--Not Photogenic.' The judges feel one of you may have a little more potential than the other." With that she calls Ann's name and Kelle is eliminated.

Kelle takes it in stride even though she is definitely upset. In her parting interview she says, "There is only so much humiliation you can take. I've hit rock bottom. I guess it's true that [what] doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
