Asheron's Call | Interview with a Player January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
Not too often do you see an interview with a player of a game (typically, the authors have something more engaging to say). However, this particular player has written over 70 chapters of an ever-evolving fictionalized account of her player's life within the world(s) of Asheron's Call. Take a look at what Aytalya has to say.

EverQuest | Newbie guide for Monks January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
Those EQ Stratics guys have done it again. There are a number of people who say that all the newbie guides on the internet for EQ make it pretty easy to create a character and bring him/her up through the beginning levels. Take a look at the Newbie guide for Monks, and decide for yourself.

Reviews | MM for 2001 January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
GameSpy has posted a pre-emptive retrospective of the Massively Multiplayer titles for 2001. Of course, knowing the software industry, only about half of the titles listed will actually be released this year, and of those that aren't released, half of them will vaporize in the night air. Judge for yourself.

Star Wars Galaxies | Raph Speaks January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
Over on the Sony Station message boards, Raph Koster dropped a line to let us know a little more about the proposed update process for Star Wars:

Yes, there will be patches. And yes, we have to do this. Mostly because of content additions, to bring you even more of the game over time, which is standard practice in the MMO world.

Sovereign | New Recon Report January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
The editors at the Official Sovereign Homepage have been reading the the discussion boards again. Here's a sample of their breakdown of a recent discussion on micromanagement:

Fist_of_Iron: I would bet there will be a lot of back room chats going on during a game of Sovereign. Just like the stereotypical image of business men; old money who congregate in some stuffy club, drinking brandy and smoking cigars while they divide the world's money up between them.

I would certainly agree that these backroom chats are a necessary component. Although I'd personally like to avoid the cigars... But trading is certainly a way of promoting alliances and player cooperation, which is really what MMRTS is all about.

Adellion | Blinded by Screenshots January 18, 2001

Had enough screenshots today? Well, here's a couple more.

Star Wars Galaxies | Developer's Digest Up January 18, 2001

Raph et al have been busy beavers over on the official Star Wars Galaxies discussion forums. Here are the topics that they've covered today:

Multiple Characters Per Server
Dev Team for SWG Details
Issues about Role playing and Abuse
Grief players
SWG Expansions and Cost

Editorial | Speaking of Ebay January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
Rjprend, contributor to Lum the Mad, has something to say about the recent Ebay nerfings of EQ related auctions:

This, to my mind, is very comparable to online game property. All players have a desire to excel, but not all players have the time and resources to perform that. Brad McQuaid said it best himself when he said (ugly paraphrase): The main resource in MMOGs is time.

In fact, you could almost look at eBay as another path of advancement, the next resource outside of time.

You can read the rest of the rant here.

EverQuest | Dwarven Myth Backgrounder January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
The prolific editors over at EQ Stratics have written up a new piece on The Myths of the Dwarves. It's worth a good read, if you're interested in the environment surrounding EverQuest.

Asheron's Call | Chat with the Developers Tonight January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
AC Developers will be online in the Zone chat rooms this evening, to answer your questions about the game. Make sure to ask them why you can't seem to get the purple stripes of your breastplate to properly align with your yellow striped pantaloons. I'm sure they'd appreciate it...

Editorial | Getting Ranty January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
There's a great piece on Project Entropia over at (of all places) the home site for the UO Witch. It's interesting to see the perspective of a long-time player of a pay-for-play game analyzing the credit-for-play model of Project Entropia. She classifies it as Entropia: MMORPG and EBAY all in one?

EverQuest | Ebay Shutting EQ Sellers down. January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
EQ Stratics has noted, in their news section (catch it before it goes away!) that EBay has shut down a number (if not all) auctions relating to EQ characters or EQ character items. The reason, apparently, is a heavily exercised copyright violation clause in the Ebay Terms of Service.

Editorial | That Henkel Guy again January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
More questions have been added to the previously mentioned Interview with Guido Henkel. These questions focus mainly on Guido's potential plans to return to the gaming market.

Asheron's Call | Hung Well January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
Yesterday we told you about Hung Well, a 57th level character, over a year old, that is being harassed by the overbearing AC Code of Conduct Nazis. Well, now you too can let those jerks know how you feel (not that the tone of my voice should influence you at all).

NeverWinter Nights | Trent Oster, can't get enough of him January 18, 2001
By: Mystery
One wonders when Trent gets a chance to work on the product. It looks like he's dropped some more info off on the official boards for NWN, according to RPG Planet. You can check out their breakdown here, or access the boards for yourself.
