Matt Firor Interview February 27, 2001
By: Mystery
Game Banshee sat down with Matt Firor of Mythic Entertainment the other day to talk about DAoC. Here's some of what he had to say:

Q: PvP is a serious issue, loved by some and hated by others. Mythic’s creative approach to realm-based PvP (by high level players) might be exactly what we’ve all been waiting for. How is Mythic going to deal with complaints that one realm is more powerful than the other because their classes/skills/spells are overpowered? Will classes/skills/spells be “nerfed” during the course of the game to balance PvP?

A: We’ll always do what we have to do to make the game balanced. If we slip-up and introduce a bug or imbalance that makes one class too powerful, we’ll have to take steps to make sure that the problem is fixed. I’d rather have some disgruntled players whose characters have been nerfed than a completely imbalanced game that is fun for no one. Of course, our job is to make sure that these problems don’t happen in the first place.

The Races of Hibernia February 26, 2001

Earwin, over on Camelot Vault has something to say about the Irish Mythology in DAoC. Out of all of it, however, he doesn't mention the bothersome tendancy for development artists to paint a picture of the Sidhe drinking in some pub and getting into a fistfight. Ah, well, you can read the article for yourself.

First Impressions, Part 3 February 16, 2001
By: Mystery
In Part 3 of their series First Impressions series on DAoC, RPG Vault delves into some juicier subjects regarding game interaction:

Although it's not final, the death system in Dark Age of Camelot is rather interesting. Normally, it involves a loss of experience, the amount of which can be reduced by returning to the site of your death. The number of locations where you can resurrect is limited, so depending on how far you are from the spot of your death, this can take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes. There is also a relatively minor statistical penalty that can be bought back for cash from certain NPCs, and another that dissipates after a couple of minutes. The latter is apparently intended to discourage players from dying and immediately dashing back into battle. It's also possible to be resurrected where you died by a Cleric. In this case, the experience penalty is reduced and one of the stat loss penalties is eliminated. You also save whatever time it would have taken to return to where you died.

New FAQ Items February 06, 2001
By: Mystery
The FAQ for DAoC has been updated. Here's a sample of the update:

Will Spellcasters get pets?

Yes. Each Realm will have at least two spellcasters that can utilize summoned or enchanted creatures to aid them as they adventure.

Additionally, a number of other casters (and semi-casters) per Realm also get the ability to charm, mesmerize, and otherwise control NPC monsters they find wandering about.
