Interview with Scott Brown March 01, 2001
By: Mystery
An interview with Scott Brown, President and Lead Designer for Jumpgate, has appeared over at IanStorm. Here's some quotes for ya:

When do you expect to go live?

Hopefully very soon. I think it’s reasonable to expect a release within the next 3 months, possibly sooner.

Are you looking at any options for publishing?

We are currently in talks with publishers and we are weighing our options carefully. Several well-known publishers have expressed their interest in Jumpgate and we are awaiting their decisions.

You can read all about the interview here.

Famous Last Words February 07, 2001

A potentially game-balance-harming bug has been found in Jumpgate. One of the developers, in response to a notification posted in a public discussion thread, said:

This is definately a bug. Sorry guys, we thought it was fixed last patch - turns out it wasn´t. Next patch we´ll take another whack at it. - We´re feeling good about this one... nothing can *possibly* go wrong! :)

(insert impending doom/foreshadowing music here)

Cheating February 05, 2001
By: Mystery
A large thread developed over a potential crack/cheat for Jumpgate in one of the general discussion forums on the official site. Thankfully, a few days later, on of the develoeprs (Scorch), dropped in an posted this little ditty:

Good news guys. This should now be fixed for the next release so it should be a moot point. Basically do what you will to the client but if the server thinks you are cheating you will be kicked from the game for a period of time (longer once we know that this is only kicking cheaters...) If we know you have altered the client for any reason other than helping us test you will be banned. Basically it comes down to this. If someone is cheating and we know and we do not have an email from them telling us how and what they did they will be gone. If they have told us what they did they are being a very helpful beta tester. Its that simple. If you want to know if someone is cheating there is one question to ask: Have they told the developers what they are doing?

You can read the rest of the forum thread here, with Scorch's contributions appearing about 80% into the thread.
