Editorial | Factions in UO January 30, 2001
By: Mystery
Another gem from Lum the Mad, written by Arcadian Del Sol, rips into the new Faction system implemented as a means by which PvP killing can suddenly become more interesting. Arcadian doesn't believe the system works, and gives some pretty concrete evidence to that belief.

EverQuest | Evernerf January 30, 2001
By: Mystery
Over on Lum the Mad, Myschyf has posted a little ditty with a rundown on the latest nerfing of a high-level cleric breastplate that apparently did very little for game balance. Here's a quote:

Clearly the EverQuest team realized sometime ago that the breastplate was over powered as the openly admitted to ‘adjusting’ high-level monsters in game to compensate for the breastplate.

On Fennin Ro, a level 60 cleric cried.

Heh, would have paid to see that. Anyway, you can check out the rest of the article here, and comment on it here.

BigWorld: Citizen 0 | Forum Post January 30, 2001
By: Mystery
Kevin Kong, MicroForte employee and Forum master, posted this recently in the official forums:

On the BW main page, after clicking on the forum link on the left there is a small screenshot on the top right of the page blended into the menu. From what i can see, there are hundreds of people in one area. It would be interesting to view the full image, if anyone knows where it is....

The image snippet is from an unreleased screenshot. We created a movie for the AGDC back in November 2000 and the image was from a segment of that movie. Basically that shot showed a mass of botclients rushing down a hill in a scene not too dissimilar from BraveHeart. The scene was included to show off one of BigWorld Technology's strength, massive & meaningful crowd scenes. In that scene I believe we had 600 avatars running over the hill.

NeverWinter Nights | Interview with Preston January 30, 2001
By: Mystery
A great Q&A session with Preston Watamaniuk, Technical Designer for Neverwinter Nights, took place over on Neverwinter Haven. Here's a sample of the dialog:

6. What do you find the most exciting feature of NWN and why?

- The most exciting feature to date is the scripting language. This is my personal bias since I am slated to do a lot of scripting in the coming months. It is nice to have a language that allows you to achieve maximum effect with a minimum of code.

Being a bit of a scripter myself, I'm excited as well. You can get excited for yourself here.
