Christopher S. Hewitt, M.A.
Certified Esalen Massage Practitioner
Founder of Pacific-TradesChristopher S. Hewitt, M.A., or Huey as he is known by many of his peers, has lived a life dedicated to finding a balance between the mind, body and spirit, through sports, academics and spiritual journies. In addition to continually working towards his own inner balance and fulfilling his own dreams, Huey has dedicated himself to helping others achieve their goals and potential physically, mentally and spiritually. Over the last 14 years, Huey has both volunteered and worked as a professional teacher, soccer coach, translator, professional voice man, and trainer in various fitness institutions, as well as volunteered his time and energy towards protecting the ocean and environment, amongst other activities.
During his Professional teaching career, Huey has taught Art History in Mexico, Spanish at the University of Rhode Island, and a wide variety of English classes, from basic English to Debate, at One of Mexico's leading Educational Institutes, as well as taught American Literature and Translation IV at the University of Sonora, Mexico. In addition to his regular duties and presenting materials at several professional conferences, Huey has also designed and taught an on-line English course based on Collaborative Reading Groups and a TOEFL preparation course.
Using his Professional Translation experience, Huey was also able to help coordinate the University of Sonora's Student Translation service. In a coordinated effort between his students and Surfrider Foundation, Huey initiated and oversaw a Spanish Translation Project as well as provided free translations for the Surfrider Costa Rica, for which he earned a Volunteer Award from the National Surfrider Foundation.
From August - October of 2002, Huey undertook another Journey which began by cycling from Vancouver, Canada to San Diego, California. It was during that journey that he was introduced to Esalen Institute. In that first encounter, Huey found the key to opening up and fulfilling his own human potential. Six months after his introduction to Esalen Institute, he would return to Esalen to fulfill a life-long dream of becoming a Professional Massage Practitioner.
In addition to Studying massage at Esalen, Huey has also attended Chi kung and Creative Dance workshops, as well as writing workshops and bioenergy classes. Outside of Esalen, Huey has attended Pressure Point Therapy, Essential Oil, Reflexology and other workshops in California and Japan.
Combining academics, spiritual growth and physical wellbeing, since 1993 Huey has also been an active advocate and participant in the Camino de Santiago, an historic pilgrimage that begins from within and "ends" in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. Since this first journey, Huey has returned to Spain on several occasions to walk a variety of routes, as well as to compile information that would serve other pilgrims in their journey. When not in Spain, Huey has volunteered his time and energy to help many others prepare themselves for their own pilgrimage to Compostela.
In August of 2003, Huey arrived in Japan, where, following his heart, he has come to find an even deeper appreciation and understanding of himself and those with whom he shares this life. Currently, Huey resides in Chiba, Japan, where he teaches a variety of classes and workshops, including "English Through Yoga", English and Spanish conversation, Business English Consultant, Dance, Cooking, as well as sharing the gift of Esalen Massage.
Currently under the guidance Yogacharya, Dr. Nirmal Raj Gyawali, Huey is learning to deepen his spiritual path and Yoga practice. To contact Huey, please write him at huey@pacific-trades.org
