Luo is a metal plate and is hit by a wooden and flat stick. It was originally known as "Jin". In the olden days, Luo was stroked to signal retreat in the battlefield. In Song Dynasty, Luo was incorporated into Chinese Folk Music. In Yuan Dynasty, Luo was used in Za Ju (Chinese Drama). In the Modern China, Luo was used by Street Peddlers to get attention.
Di Luo is a big size Luo that produces a lower pitch sound. It is hit by a bundle of cloth tied to the hammer rather than a wooden flat stick.
