Shi Mian Luo is know as the "Tao Luo" or "Zhou Shan Luo". It is make up of ten Luos of different sizes. They are arranged neatly on a wooden rack and is played by one person. The Luo looks like a metal plate.

Shi Mian Luo is popular in the South East Region of China. It is used in the Folk’s Wind and Percussion Music. In the modern China, Shi Mian Luo is incorporated into a Chinese Orchestra as an important Percussion Instrument.

Although the name indicates that there are ten Luos, in 1974, the performance of a Orchestra Work "Yu Zhou Kai Ge" made use of eleven Luos. Seven Luos and Thirteen Luos were also being used. The number of Luos depends on the requirement of the Orchestra. The structure of the Shi Mian Luo is not standardised.

The sound produced by the Shi Mian Luo has no definite pitch, and its tone is unique. It is suitable for creating the atmosphere of happiness and excitements. Famous Orchestra Works that make use of Shi Mian Luo are "Jiang Jun De Sheng Ling", "Hua Chuan Luo Gu", etc.
