Teaching the drummers of Jefferson-Morgan High School Marching Band

I taught about 18 days of band-camp over two years at Jefferson-Morgan high school, along with my friend: physics, math and music teacher Pete Harris. This was at the same time we were doing California High School Marching Band  , hitting their rehearsals in the morning, four hours before practice at Cal.. Hour drive each way; if you can't see how much we like the sport yet.....I don't know what to tell you! To Pete and me, this is a sport, and we're very good at it! That's why we always guarantee results! (if we ever get to teach a line all year, or longer.....watch out; so far we've only taught summer drum programs) There were also a few full days mixed in, so these guys at Jeff-Morgan definitely got their act together and were very entertaining drummers. This band had a typical 'festival band style' repertoire, in that they didn't just work on one show like most of our other jobs. They played over 20 tunes, and it was our job to get them through the music, and to teach them to carry drums and move.

This was a great job, with great students, and a cool band director. It was always fun to have two drum-lines at the Coal Queen Parade! Always the hottest parade, which traditionally was the Saturday after band-camp was over, gave the drum-line personnel a chance to perform and push themselves that extra step. I believe it was over a couple miles long! I don't remember the names (just the faces) so, if anybody from here does, write a quick e-mail to refresh my memory: vin.drums@verizon.net and I'll post it. Pictures or real audio files also welcome!
