 | The
Scotdale Doves Drum & Baton CorpsThis was a corps I taught along with Gary Lavelle, who played
      Keyboards in the Royal
Crusaders. We taught this drum and baton corps while we participated
in Finleyville! The students ranged in age from four to fourteen years old.
They had a good assortment of small drums so, this wasn't a matter of
physically not being able to carry the drums, like it was in other very young
stick teams I taught. We just had to teach them to march and to play some
cadences for their parade schedule. We gave them an identity with the whole line wearing mirrored
sunglasses, and their own marching style, and taught them to play, which
gave them enough advantage to win many awards and prize money.
 Thank
You, you did a wonderful job! This was the first time in my coming career I'd ever heard those fateful words. It's like,
you go to practice all excited, do your thing, and at the end of the
rehearsal they give you an extra hundred bucks, and say thanks! The actual
quote was: "Thank you very much....they are good enough!" If we
had just held back those last two cadences, we might have worked another
couple of weeks. Within a year I'd play drums for the Slate
and Pearl band from Pittsburgh PA.
