Ithacan Web Log - October '02

Tues. 10•29•2002 @ 10:56 AM

It may be Tuesday, but I am already thinking of Thurs. Halloween and Dave's friend Lindsey's birthday, that should be fun.

There's nothing more really to report... The internet here has be SO crappy these past few days. AIM has been fried, explorer just came back online. It is annoying to say the least. For that reason and the fact that this been the busiest week and a half of my college career, I haven't updated, and I do apologise. Until then...

This week has been hellish, but is over finally. The weekend so far has been a bust; having to walk home to the dorm after a busted party, in the rain, while having to pee. But tonight is gonna be better, fingers crossed!

They struck agian! This morning I woke up to my bedroom being halloween spider webbed. Check it out. I will get them back, mark my word.... Hey, i have an editing assignment for the tv show i am on, its a fake movie trailer.... i will post what i have when i have it....

Tonight's recap: Mike left and is no where to be found, Dave and I make PB&J sammiches, then sing our blues about papers we have to write. Finally, Dave and I resort to yelling random things out of the window at random times, YAY!

Aah, college life...

Welcome back. I haven't updated cause, well, its my site. I am back in Ithaca, it feels good to be back in the swing of classes and such. I got my mid term grades, and I am very pleased. This week though I still have a photo project and a paper to write.

...Lets see, around Ithaca Mike carved pumpkins, made halloween costumes, the walls in my building are being painted, and the famous fountains of Ithaca are shut sown for the winter... I cant wait for snow~

Catch you later~ ~joshua kohl

Fri. 10•18•2002 @ 12:51 PM

Yesterday I saw the teachers I love, the friends I remember, and the soccer team, whom I miss, take the league. It was enjoyable to say the least. When I woke up this morning, though, I seriously considered,"Have the last two months only been a dream??" Nah... Now I am sitting in my mother's new library(she's the high school librarian) and it is beautiful. Newly built, the library has a double level, an expansive dell lab, and an atrium that illuminates like no other. I will post pictures after I develop them.

I am spending time at Canisius College tonight. Josh, Mike, Mark, and Derik are welcoming me. Hopefully I can party with my high school crew, hit the mall, get some roast beef on weck, lol. I suppose I may update once more before I am Ithaca bound~

Welp, I am home. I am happy, but kinda weirded out. Just on the drive through town, I began to notice more and more little details about Akron. I am told each time from now on will be harder than the last... I am happy though. My dog kinda shunned me, but I guess I don't smell the same.

Tomorrow is the big test. After leaving that place (high school) in the fashion I did (long story) it shall also be an interesting experience to go back, haha. However, there has been a whole lot of renovation and I hear its beautiful. Its the people, really, that draw me back to that place. I am a representative of "the rest of the world" bearing stories of the great beyond... I'll tell you more later, time to get behind the wheel and drive my baby volvo wild~

Tonight was a fun ending to a great visit. Derik and myself ended up just watching movies and chowing on stolen dining hall food. Tomorrow is a brief psych class and a visit to the commons before I head home. There is NOTHING to do on a Tues. in Ithaca. So there were like all these random people from the floor chillin in the lounge.

So my dilemma now is the gathering of items to take home with me. I mean I have all my shit here, but still a lot at home, so what do I really need?? Whatever, live and learn. Plus there is the job of saying g'bye to all your new friends..... nevermind, its 2.30 am and I am still packing

Tues. 10•15•2002 @ 11:20 AM

I took my stagecraft midterm this morning and am now awaiting Derik's awakening. He arrived at about one thirty yesterday and we had a real good day, I went to normal classes and he took pictures around campus and visited a friend of his that goes here. Hopefully we can hit up the Commons of Ithaca before my next class.

Tonight we are planning on going out with Dave and his friends again. Hopefully there are fun things to do in Ithaca on a Tuesday night. We'll see.

Quick Update... Since we never heard from Scott Kirby, we were sad to have an empty bed in our room. Therefore to fill the void, we decided to grow a new room mate, and name him SCOTTY DON'T.

We began with Snapple Iced Tea in a red cup. Then we waited for the miracle of life to occur. For the past few days we have watched and waited and avoided throwing him out. However today he was beginning to smell, so we flushed him down the toilet.

As you can see, we were making real progress. But before dumping the poor boy I took this picture and, with the aide of the computer, highlighted the SCOTTY DON'T that we all were learning to love. Maybe this week we can make a new SCOTTY DON'T with some bread or something, I'll keep you posted. ~joshua kohl

Sun. 10•13•2002 @ 6:26 PM

It's fun to have ties to so many different groups of people on campus. I like being able to go to Taco Bell with Brian(teal) and Jason(black and pink) and get funny looks from the locals. I like being able to get spiced out and go to party with Dave(roomie) and his hot friends from home. I like college.

Last night I watched retarded movies with Ben(red and blue stripes) and his friends. This morning I worked the grill at work. Very much like burgers at the car show, but it was French toast. Three hours flies when you are constantly flippin dipping or stacking 45 pieces of toast at a time. And I made friends with the cool Black cooks that work there, and the head cook Joel. Joel and I discussed the hidden beauty of Buffalo(he's from Lancaster) Too bad I never want to eat French toast again, ever.

Its now time to get to homework, and stop surfing and stop mixing music and stop eating crap and stop IMing.... ~joshua kohl

"Community Action" as defined by Ithaca College Residence Hall Association- Any activity, floor or dorm wide, monitored or organized by an RA used to unify and strengthen inter-student relations.

Four people on my floor dyed their hair. Ben, Brian, Jonnie, and myself explored the spectrum of Manic Panic further. Katie the RA watched us, and many more people from the floor cheered us on. Don't we look like the freaking shit?? Now thats my kind of Community Action!

I'll update more later, gotta go to carpentry class... hehe college credit for building stuff... ~joshua kohl

Fri. 10•11•2002 @ 6:46 PM

I think we found our new Thursday night hang out. There's a frat in the City of Ithaca, but still Cornell, that is basically a night club. It was a suitable and enjoyable environment to celebrate Courtney's 18th birthday. The end of the night saw more than 20 people cram into a van cab, therefore costing each of us less than a dollar for the ride- quality.

Today was dreary, I had a class at noon and slept for four hours afterward. And now I am considering a hair colour change, due to a sub-culture conflict I have come against here a Ithaca College. I won't go into it, but if you need a good bedtime story, maybe i will tell you sometime.

Three more days of classes, plus a visit from my high school chum Derik Kane, until Fall break. Derik is gonna visit and come to some of my phat classes here, then we're driving home together. Fun fun
Finally it is the weekend, party hard. ~joshua kohl

Thurs. 10•10•2002 @ 10:50 AM

Last night i decide to eat and early dinner, pre 7 oh my GOD! So inevitably, i am hungry come 11:30. My hallmate Brian invites me to late-nite(8-midnight dining) and i tag along. We get to the dining hall, mm food, and i realize i dont have my keys. So i run back to my dorm room, grab my keys, and am off running back to the dining hall. mm food. I get to the cashier, and i realize my ID is on my desk... i think you get the gist of the evening.

Dave and I both have 9.25 classes on tuesdays and thursdays. So we are both putzing around before bed, etc. and we get in a mint war. ((We have been stealing mints from the dining halls for our own collection and consumption.)) Dave got in a few good shots, but not as good as I did, check it out.

It is definately time for a colour change... Lets count off... One- a girl addresses me as Frank, and i am not frank. Two- a girl continues talking to me about something she said in the gym, and i havent been to the gym, nor ever seen her before. Three- some guy asks me what i thought of the art history test, and i have no class covering art history, nor a recollection of this guys face. Four- eating dinner last night, one of Brian's friends sits down and reveals his newly teal coloured hair. I know i am not intentionally teal, but i am teal none the less... colour change time. i dont know to what, since i am real fried and kinda wish my browny brown back. But pink again would be nice!
Today I need to spot tone my pics for my project (basicaly paint over any scratches or dust marks on the print). Today is Dave's friend Courtney's Birthday, so we are going out. But for now i have work to do, and is still smells like cider/vinegar in here. Gonna have to do something about that... ~joshua kohl ~wow, what an update~

Wed. 10•9•2002 @ 9:55 AM

Right after I updated last, I went over to my bed. I smelled a sweet vinegar, and was talking to my RA earlier about this cider she bought in town that made her sick.... I pull out the cider, and sure enough, its the same kind. The smell was the fermentation of poorly pasturized cider, and it was spewing from the container because of all of the pressure inside. So I sadly dump my payload of cider, and mop up the cider spot on my rug... I have spilled more on this rug, since I have been here...

Last night I saw the play "Laramie Project." It takes place in Laramie, Wyoming and entails the documentation of the townfolks who knew a gay college student who was brutally murdered. Tastefully put together, very modern ('98), a little too 'heartwarming' I wanna say, at the end, only because it is the kind of show that has that kind of goal. But with the subject matter, I don't think you can get too positive a message out at the end. I really liked the show though. I totally recommended it to all. It really makes you think...

Today I print for my third photo project. Hopefully I can get better results from this roll. Hmm, clean my room, get my schedule set for the semister... thats my day. Hope you have good day as well~ ~joshua kohl

Tues. 10•8•2002 @ 12:21 AM

Today was just another ordinary day. I got up at like ten, take a psych test, take some pictures of nontraditional beauty, stacking steel for welding and watched a movie for course credit. MM MM MM. Guess what? I already have plans for the first days of winter break. I am bussing down to NYC to see some Dave somebody @ the garden, but most importantly, spending time with the love of my life, my best friend, Nicki G. I am excited to go!

As for the week outlook... I will finish printing some pics, usher a play on campus, and let the weekend roll on in. Fun fun. see you all in a week and a half. PS- i mean no disrespect to any member of the Dave Matthews Band, especially its founder lord and savior, David James Matthews~

Well the topic of conversation this evening was masturbation. Yes, sugaring your own burro, double clicking your mouse, check out the link for more...

I need to sleep, i have a test tomorrow and all i can think of is the sexual repression of the first floor of terrace 8.

Thurs. 10•3•2002 @ 8:47 PM

Today was nap day. I pushed my ass to class at 9:30, then napped afterwords for three hours!! Its great. The weather isn't a helper in the energy department. I fear no coldness, just the wet. My evening consisted of watching Friends, and now Scrubs. And I have a take home mid term to do this weekend. It may or may not be a blessing.

This week marks parents weekend. My momma and pop are visiting me. I will get funny pics of them for you. Well its laundry time~
