Ithacan Web Log - Aug/Sept '02

Sun. 9•29•2002 @ 6:04 PM

My Saturday was a big one... for me anyway. lol I rearranged my room! I lowered and rotated my bed. Its now against the wall, and accessable from the ground without the use of a ladder. see for yourself. It is really beginning to feel like my room at home. Which is good. My roomie Mike told me the residential life people will probably move me out now, cause i am comfortable. haha

Sunday was no different in funcontent/relaxability. Work study was my morning and 3 hour nap was my afternoon. Fantastic, this college life. Mom and dad are coming in on friday. i guess i better clear the naked ladies from my computer desktop, and the posters from thew wall, etc...

Last night you ask?? Total bust. We hear there is a party at some house off campus (damn you IC police) but it was totally lame. By the time we end up bouncing outta there we are calling for a cab, and get sidetracked by an invitation to west tower.. but in key with the evening thus far, that fell through. By that time the cab had come and gone. Good indication to call it a night.

The weekend is what you make it. "You" being "me," and "me" being "I." yeah nevermind....haha, so its lunch time. Enjoy the drear of the rain and clouds. :)

It was 7, i had just gotten home from short story... the pool wouldn't be open for a good hour... SO yeah I thought it may be a good idea to lay down. Next thing I know, it is 9:30. Hooray. Therefore I did the next best thing- ate chicken wings and french fries.
So I settle in for the night, and its midnight. What happens next you think?? The fire alarm goes off. So the entire community of T8 is standing out in the rain at midnight, waiting for the police to check through all the rooms to make sure we are all alright. It turns out that someone was playing with a ball and hit a sprinkler or sensor or something and set the alarm off.

Meanwhile Dave and I are bored waiting for the IC Po Po, so we go up to see his friend Lindsey in T6. We chilled there for a while then explored the Terrace 6. Dave found himself in the vending machine room and called me in. He got the GREAT idea of stealing the garbage can. So he stuffs it in his shirt, but I am like dude, just walk out with it. So we casually head to ground floor, hit the grass and run the like the devil. It was invigorating. The evening came to climax with the realization that neither of us had a key to get back in to T8. Oh well,

Wow, one month has passed (and a day and a half) since I moved in here in Ithaca. Its neat to think that the people you know and almost love have only been your friend for a solid three weeks (if you are lucky). I am feeling very accomplished as an Ithaca Bomber. Today I cut out seven 6' by 5' 6" platforms for Three Penny Opera, finished my first photo project for intro to photo, taped another episode of Trailer Park, and just lived up every astetic benefit of the Ithacan area. I love it here, if you didn't already know.

Now for the funny stuff. I left my webcam on again... silly me, but again it proves useful. Who goes running past my window and down the stairs, but none other than Steve Lega's look alike. Those who know the kid will appreciate this, but to those who don't, oh well... Yes good times good times.
I am planning on hitting the pool tomorrow evening. I figure a month and a day and a half of sitting on my ass warrents a dip in the pool. (Dad says clubbing doesn't count as aerobic exercise *wink*) Plus I know it will make Nicole Baker happy, and yes Bake, I am swimming in Barker for the Alumni Swim... Until then~

I swear I updated earlier this week...i must have forgotten to save. So to recap: I took my second test in college, The Metamorphasis is a cool story, my 5th and 6th roll of film are done, thunderstorms are erotic, I am cutting steel and breaking down 50 foot tall sets for a class, there are now four people on campus with blue hair, one being me, (actually some girl addressed me as Frank, and continued a conversation she was having with Frank...thats cold, haha), I treated myself to a sweatshirt, pair of shorts and a hat at the bookstore today after receiving info of a late scholarship I got, and hmm.... I think thats it. To all my friends from home, I sincerely miss you all, and plan on personally jumping on top of all of you when I get home in later October.

I don't really know what else there is. I am a busy boy here at the "wonderful university of ithaca"
as refered to by tom green, road trip.

Bed time however knocks at my door, therefore I will be off~ enjoy the pic^ this is from my webcam that I left on coincidently the night that I was ambushed by two neighbors and a whipped cream can...

Cornell is one fantastic party area. We were invited to this one frat, haha just try to get me to remember the name of it. Then we hit up this club, The Republica. I hope tomorrow is just as fun. We have the Homecoming here in IC then the clubbin begins. Well, our calzones from DP dough are en route therefore, its go time... night night

Fri. 9•20•2002 @ 7:31 PM

Today I took a road trip with Dave to pick up that girl he likes... Kimmie, Kate, er... Karen, yeah thats it. Binghamton is very pretty once you transverse the hick villages. The college is very nice too, no damn hills there to make you ache. Four of Dave's meathead friends are coming over to party this weekend. Therefore I must nap before I get down with my bad self.

This is what woke me up a minute ago, sirens blazing...

Fri. 9•20•2002 @ 3:15 AM

Pictures are developed, my cake was awesome, laundry is done. Things are great. I was seriously considering moving out of the lounge... I had that room assignment in T10, but you know, fate got me in the lounge to begin with, fate will get me out. I have one class tomorrow. I will get up for it, go in my PJs, get back, shower, redye my hair, and road trip with Dave to get his hot ass girlfriend ( you know you love it, karen) Oh, and I almost forgot... Mike and Corey were drunk tonight!

Watch them juggle and make faces at me^

Tues. 9•17•2002 @ 10:53 PM

Monday had 7 hours of class, today I had 5 hours. I still need to shoot my film. I guess the collegiate swing is in full force...losin' sleep, doggin through classes, and finding out the real friends after only knowing them three weeks... I am sure I can divulge for you more in depth later, but its dinner time. I am hitting late night and going to bed, I will update more frequent when i find the time to do nothing, ya know not books or homework or classes or anything.

For now enjoy the highlight of my day, and i am serious, this chocolate cake...

Mon. 9•16•2002 @ 2:10 AM

Finally the rain comes. Its been pouring for 7 hours now. I love it. Hilights of the day... Aaron, Kevin, and Thomson from RPI, respectively, enjoyed a night in the lounge, and a romp in Wegmans. They enjoyed Ithaca. They will do anything to flee the RPI Ratio(6-1 guy girl ratio). They plan on returning soon. And they are also all so welcome. The room wasn't busting its 46 person occupancy limit, but its still the beginning of the semister.

Then the rain began, it woke me from my nap and fueled me to jump and play in puddles outside. However, my blue locks stained the white tee I was wearing. I still had fun. Tomorrow is a fun day; psych, theatre production, then film lab... actually my longest day in a while, 7 hours of classes. I'll share any photos I make this week with you all. But its bed time now...geeze it gets late fast...

Sat. 9•14•2002 @ 11:47 AM

Yesterday I threw down the towel, and got my hair cut. I didn't pay some dude 12 bucks for a snip snip, though. I employed the services of Ben(he lives on my floor). He has the clipper things, and seemed to know what he was doing...so... Now I am more aerodynamic, as well as camoflaged- if there were... ever something blue to hide in... anyway...

Yesterday also included another round of "lets draw on Josh." I got sushi for dinner, and was eating while Jen and Heather from room 106 were drawing with sharpies. Next thing I know, I have little (permanent marker) things crawling on my leg. I dunno if its me or if its just them...

A bunch of people here at Ithaca have gone away for the weekend. This makes me sad. Dave (roomie) is at home, but shall return with a computer (its a crappy one though-- j/j). And Lindsay was going to a family cookout (which she invited me to, but I have to work Sun). So its kinda lonely... BUT GOOD NEWS!! Aaron Janicz from RPI will be in Ithaca with some friends and I'm gonna have a good old sleepover. It will be great to have that little slice of home. I think its just what I need. I am sure there will be something fun to share with those guys around. Well. its breakfast time... see you all in the funny pages. ~joshua kohl

Sat. 9•14•2002 @ 3:38 AM

I have fun things to show/tell, but its too late/early. And besides, I need to rest before my good friend Aaron Janicz comes to visit me from RPI. COOLIO!

Stay tuned for the 'new hair' and more 'drawing on josh' time.

Thurs. 9•12•2002 @ 8:16 PM

Remember how I described scanning and playing with my negatives to make my own prints? Well, thats what we did in lab today. So I have real contact sheets for my first rolls of film. My next assignment is to catch fast movement with sharp accuracy, and to catch slower movement with a slower accuracy, hence artistic and deep photos. The "Trailer Park" meeting outlined how my job is to go to the Commons of Ithaca and interview people about movies, and just capture crazy shite on video to be shown on the, uh show. It shows on Wednesdays at 10:30. I'll get some clips from the show, and show them to you. yeah too many "shows"...

So I got my Ithaca.Edu webpage up. It is linked to this site and vice versa. Right now I only have those links and my reinstated WEBCAM!!! Yes it's back!! So you can go there and see me while I dork-ily compute on my macintosh. If I am not there, then just check back. The shield above for my Ithaca site. Remember my guestbook, leave some love.

Wed. 9•11•2002 @ 2:29 AM

Today was a long one. I won't go into it... I can't sleep at all. There are about 3,000 things on my mind right now. I shall update again soon. Observe in peace

~joshua kohl

Tues. 9•10•2002 @ 2:25 AM

Guess what time I got out of cinema lab? Huh? Guess... 10:30 PM!!! We watched Mongoloid, Scorpio Rising(which is really retarded if you wanna know), and Gene Kelly in Singin' In The Rain. Liking two out of three ain't bad. Today was rather uneventful though. I didn't get to my film done yet. But the next few days will be interesting. Tomorrow I go to Rez Life to have them give me a room assignment... HUH?!?

...Well, Mike got one too, but he turned his down, so I think I will too. That is unless they offer me a place in the mythical Sophomore Ladies Lounge..... if only it were real, if only... And wednesday I meet with the crew of "Trailer Park." An Ithacan based movie review show. I am a field reporter. ooh I am sure it will give me many a thing to post about. For now, enjoy a movie that I made as a trailer for a fictitious movie called "Third Strike" and starring Fabiana from down the hall and my roomie dave as the hero,

3RD BALL.

Sun. 9•8•2002 @ 9:55 PM

Hey y'all. It has been a long day. I had work study at 10:30, which is hell since, as you can see I didn't get to bed til after 5... don't ask. I decorated my room with all my posters, I don't care when I have to move out. Take a look. Tomorrow I need to read and develop roll of film. Looks like it may rain. That'd be great, a nice change in scenery. I haven't seen Ithaca in the rain clouds yet. See you all again~

Sun. 9•8•2002 @ 4:52 AM

Well, Dave and Myself and Dave's Girlfriend Karen were chilling watching Ithaca public access television this evening, Sat. Sept 7th 2002. What we found was a show that we can only describe as "Goth Talk" from Saturday Night Live. There were two goths sitting on a crappy stage, with bad music and lighting, being constantly interrupted by stagehands and callers giving shout outs. It is such a crappy show. I turn to the two in the room, and ask how funny it would be to prank them, Arnold Schwartzenegger style. They concur, and Dave starts dialing. To my surprise we get on the live call in show, and I let the good times roll...

Click the above link to see the hilarity that unfolded this saturday eve. ~joshua

Sat. 9•7•2002 @ 4:26 PM

I am off to Wegman's today. I like the whole town, but the bus system is kinda screwey. I am sure some drama will unfold this evening, so I will update with any good stuff. Heres a cool panoramic shot of the room I took a while ago. I love the look of them. I will post more of those, cause we keep changing out furnature arrangement. I call it my Zen Garden. Enjoy the lovely Saturday~

Sat. 9•7•2002 @ 1:40 AM

Weekend weekend. God Bless Em. I missed the movie though, my friend Lindsay's Grandpa needed to have surgery, so we'll have to go sometime else. Tonight was also Rosh Hashana services, but I missed it, don't remind me... Again we are moving our furnature around. Again we have a billion people here watching another drab movie while they all talk and miss it anyway. So its now ten to two, and time for me to go. Talk to you all this weekend~

Thurs. 9•5•2002 @ 10:10 PM

Today, lemmie tell you... I developed my first roll of film today, YAY! It is great to feel accomplished. I still have another roll to develop. (The assignment was to take two rolls of B&W, 36 exposure 400 speed, blah blah blah.) We haven't began printing them yet, but inginuitive me... hehheh... I took the negatives and digitally scanned them, photoshopped them to hell, and made prints of my own. They aren't any where near the quality of how the prints will look, but take a gander.~

Tomorrow after psych I am getting the second roll done. I will post them if they are any good. Friday is a drive in style showing of Spiderman, but with no cars. That should be fun. The weekends are looking more and more delicious with the more and more classes I go to... Have you ever heard of "Pilates??" Apparently its a yoga-ish thing, and it has invaded my room... see y'all

Tues. 9•3•2002 @ 9:40 PM

"I am starting to questinon this whole college thing. No one told me there was going to be this much reading involved."~ Josh Parker "Road Trip" But seriously, there is a lot to do when you spend four classes (4.583333 hours) in lecture halls and darkened screening rooms. College is lending me great knowledge. Ask me later for fun stories. People are always in the room, which is not always a blessing. Watch them play balderdash, and draw on my shoulder.

I am turning in early, I swear doing nothing alllll day and computing allllll night really tires a guy out. Oh, and PS, I feel the freshman 15! Peace out~

~joshua

Tues. 9•3•2002 @ 12:25 AM

One good thing from this weekend is a colour change!!! First look how blue hair looks bleached out, then look how clairol thinks "red" looks like. (snicker snicker) I'll tell you more of the crazy weekend after tuesdays classes~ byebye~

Wed. 8•28•2002 @ 4:33 PM

College life is the shit, I have decided. Waking up at 10:30 and attending a class at noon is fantastic. I think I may write a letter to my high school principal... Tomorrow however is a different story. Classes will increase in number and length and difficulty. But if everyone is as enthusiastic and as free with saying 'shit' in class as my Psych. prof., then the college life ahead of me will be a great one. Enjoy today's magnetic poetry as created by Becca, Jen, Sivan, Keith, Mike, and myself.

I hope you are all enjoying!!

Tues. 8•27•2002 @ 9:28 PM

I know I didn't update yesterday, no. There were seminars and convocational-whoo haa's, and a picnic. THEN my computer crashed, apparently I can't run a computer on half an OS. But today was a hang out day. I spent $365.70 on 12 books, and $5.34 on a sub and snapple. Then we all hung out in my room, check it out.

Tomorrow marks the first day of classes, well, class. I have Psych at noon then... uh.... nothing. I'll update tomorrow after class. Good night, I am sleepy.

~joshua

Sun. 8•25•2002 @ 11:14 AM

So, the plan for yesterday, and they were idol plans at best, was to leave the house at 8 AM. Then it was 10, then 11:30, then finally it was noon. With Dad in the shower, and Mom falling asleep to her book, I climb in the car to tell them I am ready to start considering thinking about the possability of maybe getting on the road. Finally at 12:30 PM, the morn -er, afternoon of Saturday the 24th we depart in a filled to the brim Volvo X-C. And if you didn't know, you'd think I was going to Rennsler's Polymetric Institute, because I packed that car like a real engineer-type guy. Boxes were rotated and inverted in ways that only a professional could think of.... Anyway.
We arrive to the campus of Ithaca at three thirty. There was traffic up the ying-yang through town, so it took a bit longer. From there it is all a blur. But I move into my temporary lounge-room and meet my two other roomies. One is David and the other is Michael. We had a third, but he hasn't shown yet. But I am settling in nicely, my computer is fantastically happy at high speeds, i am happy, and definately comfortable. We have an excellent view, and the room space is nice. But I miss my friends and my own room. Don't think you aren't all in my thoughts at some point during the day. Today is filled with more "activities" so, I shall be busy. Dont forget to sign my guest book. Peace out~

~joshua

Sun. 8•25•2002 @ 2:19 AM

I am Ithaca's, and Ithaca is mine. However, since it is twenty after two in the morn and I just have the Inter-web working, I have to go to bed in the elevated hotel-esque place I shall call my home for a third of my stay here at Ithaca. And for all of you calling me a liar for not posting on the 24th, this still counts 'cause I haven't gone to bed yet. :-P *NUH* Full coverage of the move in is tomorrow's job, see you all then.
