Who Are We?

We are salt, we are light
But does that matter if our hearts are not right?

If we live unrestrained and do as we please,
Not counting His cost, not fall on our knees.

If we look at the cross and see just a man,
Not beaten, not broken, nor killed by our hand.

Then we will not live as He has foreplanned,
A whole heart unto Him, a whole life in Him stand.

So what kind of life has He asked us to live?
To die to our "selves", all to Him freely give.

Does it mean that we live as puppets on strings?
Do the right works, say the right things?

Or is there something that sets us apart?
A hatred for sin, a condition of heart.

To love Him with our heart and our soul,
To give Him our lives, be our purpose and goal.

To love Him with all our strength and our mind
To serve Him with gladness, be patient and kind.

To humble ourselves build other up first,
Jesus' righteousness, our hunger and thirst.

Controlling our tongue, in haste not to speak,
Quicker to listen, becoming the meek.

Transforming our mind, to Christ not the world,
Not loving this life, going after the pearl.

To do all these things, and yet so much more,
Justice, Mercy and Faith, we shouldn't ignore.

So turn to Him now with all of your heart,
Repent and be cleansed, new life, a fresh start.

I hope that you'll soon see what I say,
That you are the light to show them "The Way",

That you are the salt, and you must give flavor,
"To a cold, dark world, you show the "Savior".

Your heart is the issue, He brings it to light,
Walking by faith, and not by sight.

And so I return to what I first said,
We are salt, we are light, alive in Him, alone--dead!
