When you first arrive at Daytona USA there is a display about how a Winston Cup car is assembled. It is sponsored by DuPont, Jeff Gordon's sponsor for Winston Cup racing. The car is taken apart from the shell on down. It was very educational and offered a few good photo oppurtunities.
Pepsi presents a movie about the
Daytona 500. It is fabulously produced giving you the feeling you're at the track. The movie had my 4
year old on the edge of his seat. At the end of the movie you exit through "victory lane" where the
car of the winner of most recent Daytona 500 rests until the next year. The car has all the dirt and
grime from the track and remains untouched. Congratulations to Dale Earnhardt on his 1998 victory
at the Daytona 500.Daytona is more than
NASCAR racing. It hosts the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona and many motorcycle racing events. EJ
had a ball on the bikes!! There are also interactive features involving pit stops (where audience
memebers get to try and do a 2 tires pit stop) and a computer simulator that allows you to qualify (I
qualified at 189.78 mph..not the best but not too bad). Overall it was very interesting visit.
Here's my little Jeff Gordon fan in front of the "official" pace cars for Daytona International Speedway. He loves the pace cars and knows why there are more than one out for the first lap around and what happens when the lights are off. Thanks Chuck for this picture!!!
