This was the first thing we saw when we looked at
the track from our seats. We arrived at the track about 1:00PM for the 8:00PM start. The area
around the track was hopping with activity. We just paroused the area drinking a few beers and
soaking in the fun and sun.
Prior to the start of the race a salute to the firefighters of the
Daytona International Speedway and surrounding communities was conducted. It was a neat sight to
see as a large line of fire trucks circled the track at dusk. I personally salute these brave men for their
efforts during the difficult times in July. I was there, with my son and my Mom's family 60 miles
away. It was dangerous work they did and their efforts were incredible.
Here are a couple pictures of the
new Busch Grand National car owned by Jeff Gordon and Ray Evernham for the 1999 season. The car is sponsored
by Pepsi and Frito Lay. Here it is making it's debut at Daytona for the Pepsi
400.
