Safari Slide Show
At the 1997 Junior Texas Water Safari, Mark
Simmons expressed an interest in helping me organize The
Texas Water Safari Traveling Slide Show. While our
conversation was brief we did agree to a few of the
following parameters:
- A slide show presentation would be configured to
be 20 minutes to 40 minutes in length. The
adjustment could be made by inserting or deleting
slides.
- Configuration of the slide show presentation
would be in the 50 - 60 hour time span. The
intent would be to show two days and nights of
paddling, the physical effects on racers over a
period of time, the diversity of the river and
obstacles along the way.
- Illustrated maps would be useful to indicate
position of a boat at a given time.
- A briefly written outline or script would be
available to prepare and assist the person giving
the presentation.
- Some aspects of river conditions at high and low
levels should demonstrate the corresponding
affects on race times.
- Checkout procedure would be based on approval by
TCRA
- Donation of slides may present a problem as some
people may not want to part with them. Monetary
donations to offset any reproduction expenses
would be appreciated. The following costs have
been obtained: Reproduce print to slide: 5.50,
Reproduce slide to slide: 1.49, Reproduce
negative to print: .55
- Mark Simmons, 713-777-2741 has agreed to act as a
coordinator and collector of slides, prints and
negatives in the Houston area.
- Jay Daniels has said that he will rummage through
his collection of photos and also maybe take a
camera along on his training runs to photograph
any interesting features.
- The slide show could be used a part of the race
briefing prior to the start of the Texas Water
Safari. That briefing could be more detailed and
set to a time frame of 60 to 75 minutes.
- Anyone else is welcomed to help out by being a
coordinator, writer, or anything else they feel
like doing.
If you have any further questions of suggestions give
me a call.
