Ottine Dam Warning Sign

Fall San Marcos River Cleanup

In an effort to alert canoeist of the danger of Ottine Dam, the TCRA has taken on the project of erecting a cable across the river to support a warning sign. The project will require the efforts of at least 6 people and two consecutive Saturdays. The TCRA board of directors has dedicated $350 in funding toward the project, but it appears that most of the supplies are going to be donated. Jerry Cochran has gained permission from land owners on both sides of the river. Materials which have already been donated include:

Rusty Bailey - 350 feet of steel cable, clamps and an anchor,

Mike Riley -two steel poles (with caps, eye bolts, rebar and welding completed) and a power auger,

Phil Bowden - concrete mix,

Jerry Cochran & Southwest Texas State - reflective warning sign.

The construction team will meet 9:00 AM Sat. November 1st. at the Palmetto State Park ranger station to set the anchors and poles and will return to complete the project on Sat. Nov. 8th at the same time as the San Marcos Fall River Cleanup at Palmetto State Park. We will need chain saws, line trimmers, shovels, and wheel barrows on the first weekend and people to help on both weekends. If you can help on this very worthwhile project please contact me at home (512) 837-9853 or by digital pager (512) 302-7627.
