Hi Rick! Thanks for making contact. I have not had a lot of luck with my Italian family search! I have copied below all of the info I have collected that connects to Mollica. I was born "Orioles" - you will see the connection below. I had not visited the Mollica web site before and was thrilled by what I saw. As I glanced through the different Mollica families I saw many Angelina's - but no DeStefano connection. Feel free to post my measly info anywhere and everywhere!

He had 6 kids (incl me) and I have 26 cousins. Sooo this Brooklyn Branch is a fairly good size. If I do a web page maybe I'll call it the Brooklyn Branch. Anyhow e-mail me and I will send u any info I can get as soon as I can verify that it is correct. You all have done a great job. Thanks for the info.

I bought the Family Tree Maker software for my son's genealogy study. My wife's family (of English descent) is much more thorough in it's tree lineage. I assume that her ancestors were literate and well educated. That's probably why the data is extensive. Her mother's name (stone) goes back to 1365.

About the "Molica" story from my family: My grandfather Salvatore was born in Messina, Sicily Jan 3, 1891 and came to America in 1906 with his six brothers. Although most of his brothers moved to Chicago to join the mob, he lived in South Boston (on Emmit St) and brought up his family there with his wife Emily. My father Anthony Sr was his only son.

Three of my grandfather's brothers names were Phillip, Theodore, Joseph, all italian versions of the name. The other brother's names are unknown. They had a sister Grace who stayed in Italy. Salvatore's parents were Antonino Mollica and Fabrina Lopez, both of Sicily. The actual town in Sicily was "Gioiosa Marea".

About the spelling: We all really have the same name: None of my father's brothers could write. When they came to the country, their names were spelled different. Some Mollica, some Moleca, some Molica. The official name is spelled "Mollica" as your family spells it.

I'd love to find more info about my side of the family and rival my wife's a little, but I hear that Messina's churches and government buildings are wounded with earthquakes, fires, and world war 1&2 destruction. I've never been there. Also, I heard when you go to Messina, there are lots and lots of Mollicas there and it makes it difficult to find relatives.

Any of my story ring a bell let me know. Also, any tips on how I can get more info, please let me know, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Anthony Molica (one of the many anthony molicas in the world)

The Mollica family originated in Sicily, so here is a great map of Sicily for us to use as a reference. You'll find this map and many more on the Sicilian Web Site that I took it from. There is an Italian and English version of the site, and it is well worth browsing.

Hi Rick,

I am writing for my husband Joseph Frank Mollica, originally from McKees Rocks, Pa. now living in Huntington Beach, Ca. Saw your information on the internet and would like to find out more about whether he is related to your Mollica line. His father was Frank Carmen Mollica, and grandfather Rosario Mollica who was originally from Calabria and his wife's name was Carlotta Zappara we think also from Calabria.

This Mollica name goes back to 1441 in Reggio de Calabria. I would be interested in hearing from you.

Thank you.

Binky Mollica.

[Binky and I have corresponded, and she and her husband are listed in my genealogy pages as part of the McKees Rocks Mollica Clan's genealogy. - Rick]

From: Fred Mollica

Hi! I am Fred (actually Bartolomeo) Mollica living in San Ramon, California. I found out about your website from my son, Rick, who lives in Livermore, California. Great name, huh?

This is my first visit to your website on my own computer, although I have seen the site on my son's computer a couple of times.

Please put me on your mailing list. My son and I will be doing some research to provide you with updated information on the Mollica/Natoli branch of the family. You already have some information that my brother, Frank, provided you a while back on that branch of the family.

I don't know if any of your family members were closely related to mine. Our branch of the family came from the island of Lipari, just off the coast of Sicily. If you have any information pertaining to that, please let me know.

Ciao. Fred B. Mollica

[Welcome aboard, Fred. And thank you for putting together more of your family info for the genealogy page! - Rick]

Hi Rick , my name is Donna and I too, once was a Mollica. My father was Robert and my brother is also Robert. We have only one uncle that is also a Mollica, his name is Edward and now is residing in Texas with his wife Nilde of 25 years. they have no children so my brother was the last to carry on the name. Sad to say that he has no sons so far and it looks as though the Mollicas here in Southe Jersey will soon die out.

We are orginially from Brooklyn,New York. My grandfather was Antonio Palmerio Mollica ( nicknamed Bob) for some strange reason, I was in awe when i contacted a bmollica at boston and he responded with the Mollica Web Page. I've always felt that there had to be a bunch more of us lurking around. Mollica is not a common name!

My e-mail address is Midon6@aol.com

I, am of course married now to Mike Mazzonna and we have 4 children. i am the oldest of 4 children myself and i am 40 years old. My mother, Dorothy, and father Robert(Bob) had a wonderful 35 years of marriage together. Sad to say that my father passed away in July of 1992 , at the age of 58, too young for anyone, we still feel the loss. But i know if he as here he would be so thrilled to know that there is another Robert Mollica out there!

Sincerely,

Donna Mollica-Mazzonna

[Donna later sent some detailed information that I posted on the genealogy pages. She also hooked up with Susan Mollica in New Jersey, who does some of the very best genealogy work on the Mollica name. Good things are happening! - Rick]

Rick, I am trying to trace my family tree, wondering if you can help. My father Francis James Mollica was born in Norristown PA and he moved to Bensonhurst [NY?] when he was young. His father's name, I believe, is Vincent and his mother's name is Rose. His DOB is 04/11/1926. He had 7 brothers - all are deceased as far as I know.

[Jim's cousin Rose sent an e-mail on June 22,1998 (scroll down this page). Rose is still living in Brooklyn and has lost touch with the relatives. Jim is looking for her, and she is looking for him. I sent e-mail to them both to hook them up. - Rick]

Dear Rick,

Hi! My name is Julia (Pistone) Mollica and I am related to Lauren Mollica of New Brunswick, NJ. Just dropping you a line to let you know that Lauren has just finished filming a commercial for K-Mart Clothing Stores. The commercial is for back to school clothing, so I'm sure it will be airing soon. Keep a look out!

And what does Lauren look like?

I haven't seen Lauren in quite a long time since she is attending school in Carabasset, Maine where she will be in her senior year. The last time I saw her she was tall and slender and her dark curly hair was blond and cut short. She is also a skateboard enthusiast, which I think she maybe doing in the commercial. This is the best I could do. Julie

Hello Rick.

My name is Mike... and I'm a Mollica...as you may have discerned by now. My dad was born in Argentina...but we are Italian. I have lots of Mollica family in Italy...and I'll be flying there next week for a couple of months. I currently live in Santa Barbara, although the bulk of my family is in Los Angeles. We are very close with the RUSSO surname here in California. I would love to help with genealogy of our surname, although it would have to wait until I get back from Italy in August. Well, I just wanted to touch bases and see if I can learn more about the MOLLICA name.

Dear Mr. Mollica:

I am fairly new on this computer stuff, but I happen to look up the genealogy of the Mollica surname and your site came up. I forgot to say my maiden name is Mollica, my dad was James Vincent, he passed away when I was seven.

So you could understand how excited I was to find my name and also the coat of arms. My mom never spoke too much of him, due to the fact I believe she was so grieved and still is today at 87.

As I previously stated I enjoy the site. I was previously from Brooklyn N.Y. Thanks again for a pleasant site.

Hi RICK, Enjoyed the page where all the other Mollicas gave info and I to would like to be added to get updates.

Here is some infomation Mollica's Brooklyn N.Y.

All previously lived in Brooklyn, lost track of all others over the years. Sure would be interested in knowing what happened to all. Know they were all married when we left New York for Long Island. Thanks again a great site. Please update if you can.

My Dad worked on the Manhattan Project as a welder. I was too young to know much more about him. I was seven when he passed away. Maybe we are all related. I always thought Mollica was not a common name.

God Bless you all.

From: Paolo Mollica

I am Paolo Mollica, aged 55, living in Palermo, Lawyer, son of Domenico. aged 80, Judge, who is son of Paolo, Judge, who lived in Trapani and in our farm in SanGiovanni, near Calatafimi (where Garibaldi had a furious battle before entering Palermo); his father was Vincenzo, Magistrate, and better known as "Toro di Calatafimi" (Bull of Calatafimi, for his sexual way of life).

Our coat of arms is represented by two hands breaking a bread.

Our Family origin is in Messina, around 1450, when Mollica was the "Capitano del Popolo". Later, Pope Clemente gave us the title of Cavalieri di San Costantino.

The family of Pietro Mollica, my grandfather's Brother, lives between Milano and Torino, and they are a little out of view, but I know that there is some doctor, as Vincenzo, my father's brother recently died, was.

I did not realize any connection with the American Mollicas until I have seen your site: well, it's a start. I will try to build a site, and I start collecting the appropriate materials. See You soon!

Sant'Ilario coat of arms.

See this coat of arms? It comes from Sant'Ilario della Jonio...which is the town from which Mirella Mollica (Belgium) and the McKees Rocks Pennsylvania Mollicas can trace their Mollica ancestry. Here is an English version of one page from the village's web site. Incidentally, Renato Mollica keeps track of Sant'Ilario's history for posterity, and Vincenzo Mollica is an Alderman in the government there.

I have information obtained from my grandmother's passport.

My grandmother was born March 9, 1886 in Messina. Her parents were also from Messina and their names were:

My grandmother was 19 when she emigrated to the United States (New York City) with my grandfather, Orazio Amantea and two children, both boys. They settled in Brooklyn where my father and my two uncles were born. My father told me that my grandmother came from a wealthy family but was disinherited when she married my grandfather because they were first cousins. My father also told me that three girls were born to my grandparents but none survived infancy.

My parents are deceased but my uncles are alive. I am planning a trip to Italy/Sicily in May and hope to find some more links to the Amantea and Mollica family. Perhaps my uncles can give me more information before I leave.

Thanks again for your help. Tom Amantea

Dear Rick,

My name is Leone Gosselin Mollica, (Mrs. Richard J. Mollica). I am just starting on the geneology search for the Mollica Family.

Grandfather Angelo Feniche (this spelling we are not sure of) Mollica was born Feb. 12, 1868 in Italy. He immigrated to the United States in May, 1884 We do not know if he first entered in Canada. We do know he married Alice Mary O'Connor, possibly in Albion, Michigan. Second marriage to Myrta Houghton - total of 13 children. If any of this matches what you know, please let me know.

THANKS, LEE MOLLICA

[Patty "Molly" Mollica from Michigan also has Angelo Fennich Mollica as her grandfather. See Molly's e-mail (January 27, 1998). Looks to me like Lee and Molly are cousins. - Rick]
