This page contains questions, comments, stories, and miscellanea which ought to be of interest to at least some of us Mollicas. I also put genealogy information here that also finds its way to the Unlinked Mollica Family Trees part of the genealogy section of this web site.
If I include anything that you've written that you don't want to appear on this page, please let me know and I will remove it right away.

Subject: Help Please
Dear Rick,
My husband is in the Army, soon we will be stationed at Venezia. I will have alot of free time on my hands and am trying to find my family in Sicily. The name is Mollica.
My Grandfather was Alfonso Mollica, he was born in Gioiosa Marea on July 19, 1904. I know that he had 16 children in his family, I presume they are all dead now. What I am trying to do is get in touch with the Mollica family that is still alive. My Uncle Alfio has told me that after my Grandfather came to America on the San Giovianni (Saint John) in 1921 of May, that his family settled in Barcellona, Messina.
Her history is very interesting, supposedly her mother Concetta LoPinto was made pregnant by the King or his son and out of that union my Grandmother was born. I am trying to find out who was the king of Italy in 1906. My Grandmother came to America by the name of Elena Buongusto, Bongusto or Mancini. I am really trying very hard to research my family history, so that I can pass this down to my sons. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
My Uncle, Alfio Mollica has entered our family in your website, and I just saw it. There is a problem though.... in Marineo, in Palermo they have told us that the records hall burnt down and they have no records of my Grandmother's birth. Someone suggested that I check the parish, but I do not know the address where she lived when she was a little girl, so I don't know what parish she was in. Can you please help me?
If there is an exact web site you could direct me to, to do this research I would most appreciate it.
Thank you very much for your help

Subject: az.mollica clan
Hi Rick, I am the the matriarch of this ARIZONA Mollica clan, and thought I might add to your info.
The children from that marriage are as follows {not sure of some of the exact dates}:
Judy's information about her father's aunt was incorrect; Aunt Pauline was not a Mollica. My father-in law's father died at an early age and his mother remarried, and Aunt Pauline was a product that marriage, not a Mollica. He had several brothers but I'm not sure if they also were from the second marriage. My husband's and my children are the only members of his family living in Arizona. All of the other family members remain on the east coast in the Boston area.
You may be interested to know that there is a Basil Mollica living in the Boston area. He had a cabinetry shop in Roslindale, Mass. when we lived there. A friend of Judy's met him recently when he came to the place where he works for an X-ray.{ The griend is an X-ray tech.} He is now about 80 years old, and was born in Messina, Sicily. He has to be related some way. I'm a retired RN, and when I was working at Boston City Hosp. years ago his son Frank, who was then about 5 yrs. old,was a patient of mine.{had his tonsils out} He wouLd now be in his early or middle 50's.
He had a sister who was a patient at the same time, but I don't remember her name. Since I was working evenings I never met the father. According to the Italian custom, the first boy is named after the paternal grandfather, so we figure he has to be some kind of cousin. How many Frank Mollicas can ther be in Messina?
Also several uears ago when Judy was going to ASU, there was a wrestling star at the school by the name of Mollica. I don't know if he lived locally and ai don't rember his first name.
A lot of information - I hope it's useful. Anne Mollica

Subject: The Arizona Mollicas
Hi Rick!
My name is Judy (Mollica) Wilson and I live in Mesa, Arizona.
I'm the youngest of the four, born in 1962. We all moved to Arizona (except Jean in Massachusetts, of course) in the 70's and early 80's. Jean and Jack have no children. Frank has 8, and I have 4.
My grandfather was John Mollica from Messina, Sicily. He came to this country prior to 1920 (I need to confirm this with Dad). He married Concetta Vanti from Abruzzi. They settled in the Boston area and had 6 children, Carmella, Anna, Mary, Frank, Sam and Santos John.
I have 15 cousins in Massachusetts. My brothers and sister and I were raised in Roslindale. I'm told that my grandfather came from a family of 11 brothers (need to confirm). I never met any brothers, but I did know his sister, Pauline, also living in Massachusetts. I know that one brother, at least, moved to Argentina. I've copied my parents on this letter so that they can add information and correct any of my information.
Are you looking for any particular facts or dates? This is fun!

Dear Rick,
I was born Helen Mollica in Syracuse, NY, daughter of Anthony and Angela Mollica, but I have always written under my married name as Helen Barolini.
I see that there will be a family reunion in Calabria in August 2001 and this is doubly interesting to me because my mother's side of the family (Cardamone and Sacco) are from Calabria, but the Mollica side is from Sicily. So I'm wondering why you sited the reunion in Calabria.
Also, my first novel "Umbertina" is the epic story of immigrants from Calabria to the U.S. and what happens in the family over four generations. I actually researched the book in my grandparents' Calabrian village when I lived in Italy some years ago. This novel has been re-issued by in 1999 The Feminist Press and is available at any bookstore or online at Amazon.com or B&N.com. "Umbertina will come out in Italy soon for anyone who is interested in reading it in Italian. For more information you can visit my website: http://www.helenbarolini.tripod.com/HelenBarolini
Thanks for a very interesting site on the Mollica famiIy. Helen Barolini

Subject: Mollica Family Reunion
Rick, I recently went on a fishing trip with my uncle, Joe Mollica, and his sons (my 1st cousins) Anthony & John. John advised me of our website and an upcoming reunion scheduled this summer. May I have some specific information on this gathering, please?
Most of my family still reside in Columbus, Ohio where my grandfather, Bruno, settled after arriving from Reggio, Callabria in the 20's. My grandmother's surname is Sergi.
Aside from my uncle Joe, my father, Patrick, (birth certificate reads "Pasquale") has four other siblings: Katherine (Nina), Eucha (I don't know her real name), Anthony, and Anna Rose.
I live in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with my wife, four sons. I have a married daughter, Peggy Bowman, and a grandson, Christian.
After practicing law in Southern California for many years, and serving as a Municipal Court Small Claims Judge, I moved to the southeast to pursue career opportunities in resort real estate with some college buddies from William & Marry in Virginia. I attended W & M on a football scholarship where I was recruited a played running back for the now legendary Lou Holtz. I earned a BA there in 1974, and a JD from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1979. Although I no longer practice law, I maintain an active license in California. I can be reached at 843.816.1931.
I hope you find this information useful.

Hi Rick, My name is Vince Mollica and my dads family migrated to Australia some 40 years ago. They come from Reggio Calabria. Having started my own family history, my dad tells me he had a great uncle (or cousin?) that migrated to the States I noticed that most of the Mollicas from your family originated from Sicily. I'm curious to know if some how in the past some Mollicas moved from Sicily to Calabria or vise versa. I'll do a bit more searching and see what comes up! Bye for now!

My Mollica connection is by marriage. I have an Obit from a Great Uncle (Francesco Marotta....Born 1885 in S. Agata, Sicily) naming Josephine Mollica as a sister. Francesco's brother, my Grandfather Guiseppe came over in 1904 and was going to stay with Antonino Mollica, his brother in-law. I can't find any info thru census or death certs for either Josephine or Antonino that fit. The Obit does say "of Italy" next to Josephine's name. Which leads to believe that they may have went back. The Mollicas I have are from Cleveland, trying to find the connection. Hope this helps OR maybe you can find the missing link in my Mollica/Marotta connection! Ed

hey Rick....Well I do know some things but not much. I know that my dad used to live in Italy, his name is Anthony Mollica. His dad also lived in Italy. He died before I was born but I do know that his name was Anthony also. My uncle, Michael Markizoni, lives currently in Italy. He is married and has a baby named Marie or Maria. I haven't seen him in about 7 years so my memory is a little rusty. My dad can speak Italian and we come from the south of Italy. I don't really know about the roots of our Italian descent, but I will look into it and write you back. I am so glad that I have found someone to learn more about my history. I will finally be able to tell people about my roots, mostly my italian friends. thanks.....angela

Hello Rick, My name is Joyce Mollica (maiden name). A friend of mine told me about your web site and I found it very interesting. You have done a marvelous job on it. I was speaking to my father Bartolo Mollica (and showed him your web site) and he was amazed also. We were looking for anyone who might have been related to his father Frank who came from Sicily around 1910 or so. My dad told me that Frank had a sister Rosalie and a brother Bartolomeo. My father was born in Brooklyn, New York.
I would like to see if I can find the family line that my dad came from but do not know how to pursue this. Do you have any suggestions as to where to start. Hope to hear from you.
Thank you for any suggestions. Sincerely, Joyce

If you are interested, I have family history handed down from the Mollica blood line from Sicily that starts with the French invasion and rule of Sicily. My grandfather told my father (the eldest child) and inturn my father told me (the eldest child). [These are] stories of the Mollica's underground resistence to the French and how the name Mignosia was introduced to the blood line when the Spanish claimed Sicily. Just word of mouth stories to remember.
My grandfather never accepted Sicily being owned by Italy either and felt they should be an independent autonimous country. He always said remember, " We are not Italian but Sicilian. We are an old proud race of people."
I will share what little I have. Have a good Thanksgiving. jennifer mollica

Hi Rick:
I was so excited to see that there was a web site for Mollica (my maiden name). My dad was Dennis Joseph Mollica dob 3/3/23. He just passed away 7/11/00. I wish he could have known that there was a web site for our name, but I didn't get my computer until after he passed away. His mothers name was Mary Cusomano (spelling???) She was married to a Dimaria. He passed away, then she married a Mollica. My father had four sisters, Ida, Connie, and Mary. My Aunt Josephine passed away a few years ago, I want you to know my dad was very proud of his name. We have beer mugs with our crest as well as a plaque he sent away for. I know for sure that we are related to Mary Barra, and Mark Barra. Their brother Dennis Mollica, looks so much like my dad its scary. Do you think we are related? I would love to know. I have a sister Linda (Mollica) Wise as well.
If you want more information, let me know and I will get more names and dates of birth. Looking forward to hearing from you.

2. My dad lived in Wolcott, CT
3. Ida Mollica Colucci 2/9/25 Connie Mollica Divergilio, Nanni 12/9/30. Sister Mary, is a Dimaria not a Mollica. I don't know my Aunt Josephines dob
4. Yes, we are related to Mary Barra. Her brother is Dennis Mollica. Their father, I believe was Salvatore, who was my grandfather's brother. My grandfather's name was Joseph Mollica. Therefore, that would make Mary Barra and Dennis Mollica my Dad's cousins. I hope that helps alittle bit. Let me know what you think.
Thank you.

Hi my is Victor E, Mollica, I'm the son of Arthur V. Mollica. And the grand son of Joseph Mollica. The little I know about my family's history is my great grand parents came from Sicily, Italy. They arrived like so many in Ellis Island New York. My grand father was about seven years old. Born 1873. Came to Orange, California in the year 1902. Worked for and was member of the Villa Park Orange growers association for forty three years. My father was born at St. Joseph hospital in Orange. And like my father I too was born there as well. MY father went to school with the Yorba's kids otherwise known as the family that held most of the land back in the 1800's. Their kids attended the Orange high school in the City of Orange. I'm just looking and wanting to know more about the possibility of whom I'm related to in the United States. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks Victor
Hi Rick. More about my Grandfather Joseph Mollica. No middle name. First of all I found out that he was born in Boston Massachusetts June 29th 1872 he lived in New York, before moving to the City of Orange in 1902. Where he later would pass away on August 15th 1960. Just less than a month before I was born on September 20th 1960. His wife was Angelica Picone, check the spelling ??? she was born in Los Angeles. I'll send more information later in September of this year. I'm awaiting the arrival of my Father and visit to my Aunt Gloria. This way I'll be able to update as much information to the Web Site as possible.

A Lady named Rita just queried me this morning wanting to know if we were related. She wrote"Believe that my Grandfather ANGELO F. MOLLICA,born Lipari,1868, had mother who was a FENECH. Hi Rick,
On my Father's Birth Certificate his Father's name is spelled FENECHI. I've been told that this is the Latin for Fenech. My father was one of 13 children most born in MA. Some of his brothers changed the spelling to FENECK for ease of pronunciation. When my grandfather died his OBIT read "GIOVANNI FENECH" but his Tombstone reads "JOHN B. FENECH". He ran a Fruit&Vegatable Business in Dorchester area of MA with a man probably brother named BARTOLI FENECH,who returned to Italy when my grandfather died. Coming to US in the 1890's they had a daughter born at sea (THERESE FENECH). Have seen an Italian Ad for FENECH WINERY in Malfa, Italy (a little North of Lipari) and have a relative named JOSEPH FENECK born and married there before coming to Dorchester, MA. Some of my father's other brothers were Barbers and one THOMAS moved to San Fernando,CA.. Grandfather's OBIT also requested that NY Newspapers copy (i.e., Bath, Brooklyn, etc).

Hi Rick,
What a pleasant surprise to find your website! For years my family wasn't aware that we had any living relatives in the States, so I was amazed to find a host of people on the internet with the surname Mollica. I really don't know who we're related to, as my grandfather, Bruno Antonio Mollica, never learned to read or write in English, nor was he an American citizen. Not much is known about him, and our family is very small now with little history to go on. We've never known any relatives outside of our immediate family in St. Louis, Mo. Somehow, we ended up with the surname being spelled Molick. Unfortunately that is the surname we still go by today. We'd love to know there are more I do have my grandfather Bruno's birth certificate from Apanice at Via Santo Rocco. He was born on June 10,1888 to Giovanni Mollica nee Bruno and of Sera, nee Guisseppe. This is near Sicily. Bruno left Italy when he was 16, stowing away on a ship bound for New York. This is the story I was told and remember. Bruno migrated to St. James, Missouri, where he married Mary Elizabeth Wagner around 1909. They had four children. Seraphena, John, Carmella and Michael. They later settled in St. Louis, Mo.
My aunt, Carmella, is the last surviving child of Bruno and Mary and she is in 81. I am the daughter of Michael.
I am very interested in finding any Mollica's that could be relatives of our family. You certainly have put together an impressive website. I hope to hear from you in the near future.
Regards, Mary Mollica Martin

Hello, So it looks like my husband, Peter Mollica, is the cousin of the fathers of Chris & Bridget & Colleen (and also Joan, the sister of Bridget and Colleen, with whom I am in touch). Thank you Rick for your web site! & Chris, is your father the Billy Mollica in Wisconsin who throws a great Mollica family reunion every year? I heard about that from Onie Mollica in CT another cousin of Peter's who even remembers meeting Peter when they were both 9 years old!
I do have some more information.
When we went to Lipari in May, 1999, we went to the record office and were able to look through the old book of births. The office was suppose to close, but they let us stay and search ourselves. At the time Onofrio was born (1860) there were 6 or 8 other Mollica men fathering children on the small Isola de Lipari! We were able to find that Onofrio's parents were Antonino Mollica b. Jan. 6, 1836 and Maria Grazia Cusolito. And Antonino's parents were Onofrio Mollica and Anna Maria Sciacchitano. Onofrio's (the one b. 1860) brothers & sisters were:
(an Angela & a M. Grazia must have died.)
I don't know if any of the brothers & sisters ended up in Waltham, MA, too. Onofrio had a fruit store and they lived in an apt. above. Maybe someone else will be able to make a connection with some of these Mollicas.
We got that right from the book. Sometimes the handwriting was hard to read. Apparently the Lipari records go back centuries on the LDS films, but I'm spending more time on my own family now and just looked at one film. It was the same info. as above, but was copies of the original certificates. The book we used must have been the original listings from the certificates.
We met a Nicolina Mollica who took us out to lunch and loved having us find her. - We decided we were distant relatives. And a Domenico Mollica who invited us in for coffee and cookies after a guy on the street had us follow him on his bike to the house. I didn't understand much of the conversations, but my husband and daughter sort of did.
Lipari is a beautiful place to visit if you get a chance!
Cheers, Judy Stitt Mollica

Rick,
Just found your site and love them. I have pictures from Onofrio Mollica Sr. (my great great grandfather) For me it goes:
I would love to share the pictures, but haven't a scanner what is your snail mail address. Also you only have the information about my aunt Suzanne. I would love to share the information I have, but do not know the correct format to relay it to you. My older sister will be visiting in 3 weeks from Vermont. it would be ideal to hear back from you before than so we can cooperatively submit some of the missing ancestry.
I look forward to your response.

I am thrilled to announce that after many years of searching for his biological father, a 40-year old man who had never known his father found his Mollica family through our Mollica Family Web Site! I won't pass on the details (for reasons of privacy), but two families who had been searching for each other are now connected. Life is good!

Hi Rick.... As usual I had to stop in to check out what was new and I found a Sara Mollica #544 in list of names that was married to an unknown Mollica. My great aunt my grandfather's sister married a Cincotta. They had children Sano, Rocco and Joe. They resided in Milwaukee, WI.
I also am curious in finding out more about Anthony V Spasaro who had family both of Mollica and Cincotta. Alot of relatives he was listing were the same names as my family. His letter was dated 4/3/2000, which is my birthday and would be a great belated present if the case so be.
I see both my brothers' web sites are now linked to the Mollica site and I guess it is time for me to start my own web page with my family. I will let you know when I get it together.
Thanks Rick for your time and any help you can give in regards to Anthony V Spasaro would be greatly appreciated and if you need anymore info regarding Sara Mollica I am quite sure I could get in touch with her sons to link them to whom entered that name from the start although it is quite possible it was brought in by one of my past letters.
Thanks Rick and have a great day........ Theresa (Terry) Mollica-Waters

Dear Rick, I am the granddaughter of Sebastiano Mollica and Anna (Sebastiana Marino)Mollica. Thier children were Mary, Anne, Joseph, Salvatore, Sebastiana, Paul, Lucy, Charles, and John. He was born in Floridia, Sicily. His parents were Concetta Bucceri and Antonio Mollica. I hope this helps in adding to the family tree. If you have more questions please email me. Be sure and put that it is you. I don't open all my email. Thank you for putting this site together. It has been very helpful. It even made my dad happy to see this has been done. Thank you, Sharon (Mollica)

Hi Rick,
It is Sharon again. You and Tony are correct. I got a family tree from my cousin. Sebastiano's parents according to her were Joseph Mollica and Maria Bucceri or Buccerl. They were from Floridia. Sebastiano married Sebastiana in Sicily. She told me she became Anna in this country. This was Anna D Marino. Their children I gave you are accurate as these are my father and his siblings. As far as the tree goes Sebastiano was the only surviving child. My father says there were at least 2 more children adopted. Anna D Marino was the daughter of Paul Marino and Sebastiana (Gisina) Marino. Her siblings were Lucy (Marino) Zapullo and Paul Marino who died at 32 years of age. The real confusing thing is my Dad remembers an Uncle and cousins in Port Chester. I remember going to Port Chester as a child. So I know we have relations there. He remembers a large family - a Frank and Jerry he doesn't remember all their names. If anyone remembers this family it would be helpful. I am going to try to find out when they left NY and moved to Ct. This might be of some help. Thanks Sharon

Dear Rick,
I just began searching for some Mollica history and found your web site. It's incredible. My Mollica family is located in Columbus, Ohio. I would like to send you some information about our family history but I'm new at this and don't know what or how to send the information. My grandfather, Bruno, was born in Reggio de Calabria in the late 1800's, and left Italy when Mussolini was dictator, or so I'm told. He has 3 sons, Joseph, Anthony, and Pat, and 2 daughters, Kate and Mary. I am the son of Joseph who is 62 years old and also lives in Columbus, Ohio. Again I would like to send more info, and thanks for your awesome site.

HI: I'm exhausted but had to write, I came across your site looking for a missing Mol(l)ica, and after looking through your names, I see a few that are in our tree also. I had stopped doing research 5 years ago so I am not up to date but here is a little:
My husbands family is from Montagnareale, Patti and Lipari. The research I have done shows them being there for approx. 250 years before venturing to America. The Casamento part of the family did a lot of research and the names Cincotta (Mary Cincotta b. 2/6/1896 married Antonio Casamento in 1912 and had 9 kids) (Joseph Cincotta b. 3/7/1886 married mariuzza Casamento in 1912) Double Wedding. One of Joseph's daughters, Jane, married Thomas Amendola in 1936 he was b. 9/17/1913 ,they had 4 kids) . they all appear within the family genealogy.
Now our Mol(l)ica: Guiseppa or Guiseppina Molica, she became Josephine in the US. Was born around 1883 in Montagnareale, she came to the US in 1907 to marry Antonio Bongiovanni also from Montagnareale. On the ship's manifest it states she was going to her brother Santo Mollica at 528 Great Street and that her final destination was Hoboken. I don't know if Great Street is in Hoboken.
Also Romano, We have a Fabronia Romano (b 1790-d 11/06/1824) married to Antonino Ceraulo(b 1788-d 2/5/1853) they had a daughter Mariuzza ( b 1812-d 2/6/1854). Fabronia's parents were Francesco Romano and Teresa Giampaulo.
That's all for now. I hope to write again soon. Loni
