DAY 5. Friday June 25, 2004
Today started with an 8 oclock breakfast in Edam for an 8:30 departure, same as yesterday. This was also the day we did introductions giving our name, where we were from, what we did, and what we were most looking forward to. (My answer being Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada). I later learned that some people thought we said Sasquatch. Others made fun of our name and asked if there is a Saskatcha-two. For those interested, Saskatchwan comes from a First Nation word meaning fast flowing water or river, something to that effect.) It was interesting and I learned I wasn’t the only accountant on board. There were 40 of us on the tour from Canada (Edmonton, Regina, Halifax and Toronto), the US (mostly California/Florida), South Africa, Mexico, and Australia, plus PK (Australia) and Jeff (New Zealand). We stopped for lunch at a stop, before arriving in St Goar around 3. We stopped in the Bierstein store and also saw the world’s largest cuckoo clock. The wine tasting was on, however several of us had opted out and instead spent time wandering through town before our cruise. The cruise was really neat- a little windy but beautiful. Castles and vineyards… Our hotel was a little one up a small town. There were amazing flowers and I cheered PK for navigating to get there although the turns etc made me feel not well. Our supper consisted of turkey/pork/ potatoes, veggies, rice, pasta and watermelon. Once again, nothing to complain about. Sat outside, people had a few drinks and learned lots of Australian dialect and a few stories. The keys at the hotel room were quite quaint. And the doors were difficult to lock. But the rooms were big.
