DAY 6. Saturday June 26
Breakfast in St Goar was bread, cheese, coldcuts, oj and watermelon before an 8:30 departure. We made quick stops in Germany and at the border. Lunch was in Switzerland where I was in for a huge price shock! My coke was 4.1 franks! Jeff indicated that income tax levels in Switzerland are relatively low so maybe living there considering that would be okay- but touring was not so good! (Advice for the budgeters out there.) Jeff took us through a bit of a walking tour of Lucerne, which was crazy busy as there was a festival on. We saw the Lions monument, and then had time to stroll around town. We also did a cruise on the beautiful Lake Lucerne. Once again, absolutely beautiful… No sea sickness on that kind of boat. We headed to our hotel in Engelburg for 7:45 supper. I loved our hotel. We had a cute little balcony with mountain views and it felt very secure. That was just a beautiful town. Supper was minestrone soup, veal, noodles, peas and ice cake. It was really good. The waiter left us 2 for 1 drinks coupons, which were also good for pop and seemed intrigued by the name“contiki”. Once me moved outside of the restaurant for some more visiting, they gave us some complementary mini-toblerones. Some people sat in the pub watching the football game, including PK who was all flagged up. Some then headed off to the bar but I just went and left as it was very smoky (definitely not a no smoking in public places ban here! and the game was on and no one was dancing) A few people stayed out and some had a good time and had some stories to tell.
