Philip Shelby, “Days of Drums”, a political thriller. Girl from the Secret Service gets into trouble, when here charge gets brutally killed right under her nose. She falls from grace and now tries to redeem herself. Obviously conspiracies and betrayals galore. Fast paced (well, it has to be with a meager 310 pages) and pretty entertaining. Nothing too unusual or new, run of the mill, but good, solid fare.

Diana Gabaldon, “The Fiery Cross”, the fifth installment of the saga of Claire and Jamie. My recommendation: Read them in order, otherwise you literally loose the plot. Previous things get mentioned frequently without much of an explanation. And although I read all of them except for no. 2, I kept asking my mum (huge fan and proud owner of the compendium…) “what’s that, who’s this, what happened again there…?” No wonder with about a 1000 + pages a pop. A must for fans, although my mum and I both found this one here not exactly thrilling. Number 5 is getting a bit tired. Supposedly another two to come. Going up to and through the War of Independence? Please post opinions in my guestbook, my mum will be glad to hear any suggestion….And for all of you that don’t know what the hell I am talking about…..these are the books, in order:

“Cross Stitch”, Claire steps through the stone circle for the first time and gets transported back to the Scottish highlands of the 18th century, meets a mysterious stranger in a kilt and the rest is history……

”Dragonfly in Amber”, where Claire and Jamie try to help Bonnie Prince Charlie…..

”Voyager”, where Scottland gets increasingly unfriendly and the have to make tracks….

”Drums of Autumn”, where they start afresh in the colony of North Carolina….and least but not last

“The Fiery Cross”, where the British start to piss the colonists off.
That’s I don’t know how many pages of adventure, romance, swashbuckling, kilts, vengance and whatnot. Forget all those other trimetravelling romantic adventures. This was the first.

Ok, I confess, I read trash and I like it!

Nelson DeMille, “Plum Island”, good old fashion cops-and-robbers. The hero, John Corey, is an arrogant, opinionated, chauvinistic prick – and obviously good-locking and successful with the ladies, although they all think he is an idiot. A lot of fun to read, even for the ladies. And funny, too. And lots of suspense. Not too much about the storyline – John gets shot on the job. Most likey the shooters had enough of his wise-ass remarks. Now he is in his uncle’s house in New England, recovering. Unfortunately some of his new friends get murdered and the local sheriff thinks it’s a good idea to hire a NYPD homicide cop. The victims worked on Plum Island, a secret research facility with all kinds of nasty viruses….Something to do with theft of a deadly virus? Or something else alltogether? Well, get the book and find out for yourself!
