I’m back. Eventually had dinner at the lobby restaurant, because they had Molokeya. Very nice! Then I just went to my room and watched telly. “Vanilla Sky” with Tom Cruise. I kept channel hopping to other programs, so my idea of the film is a bit sketchy, but it was pretty weird. And I’m not exactly a big fan of the cruiser. Not my type. Spent another 3 hours at the pool this morning. Caught some colour. Only a little sun burnt. Mainly my chest and, strangely enough, above my armpits. How that happened, I don’t know.

Called Blue Cab for 3pm. I can’t remember who recommended them to me, but thanks a bunch! They are more expensive than the usual cabs and you have to wait for half an hour or so, but they are air conditioned, reliable, get you where you want to go fast and don’t talk much. Very pleasant. I unpacked, watched telly for a bit, finally went online…..

Anyway, let’s see what I can find in my fridge that is still edible. Not much, probably….might have to call
otlob or starve….

I am having a two day weekend, elhamdullileh..... Couldn't make up my mind, what I wanted to do with those 2 days. Staying at home sounded ok, but I wanted to do something that felt more like a little holiday. So last night, when I came home, I booked a room at the Mena House Hotel for 2 nights. Ok, I just did that the other weekend, so what....it was really nice... Voila. I even decided to splash out and stay in the Palace building instead of in the cheapy garden rooms. Slept in a king size bed with Khufu's pyramid almost at touching distance. Had a great dinner last night at the Moghul Room, with the veggie combo this time, excellent! Spent all day today at the pool, working on my (non-existent) tan. Now where will I go for dinner? Italian in the garden? Barbecue at the pool? Or perhaps room service? Oh, decisions, decisions!

Good weekend. Immediately after work on Thursday I drove over to the Mena House Hotel in Giza. Talk about a room with a view, Khufu's pyramid right opposite my balcony. Met up with Ji, Les and Sheri and went off to dinner at the Moghul Room in the hotel. Dinner with handicaps. Les showed up in his golf-outfit. Sorry, sir, no shorts. So he buggered off to the pool restaurant for barbecue. We hadn’t noticed, as he was last to enter the restaurant. Ji and I and food….nothing else matters….so he told the receptionist to tell us that he wasn’t allowed in, didn’t want to change and if we would join him outside….so she came to the table to tell us that the gentlemen had gone to change from his shorts into long pants. Ehm, errr???? After waiting for half an hour we started to wonder and called the room…nothing….we ordered food for all of us….10 minutes later…we called again….Ji, perhaps you should go and look for him? Stroke under the shower or something like that?…10 minutes later he called to ask where the heck we were??? Egypt live. We left him to his kebab at the pool, cancelled part of our order and stayed in the restaurant. Needless to say, we cancelled the meat combo and said we wanted to keep the veggie combo and then eventually got the meat combo. Egypt live. Again. They had a Indian singer and two sitar palyers, nice atmosphere, most of the food was nice, but that was definitely the weirdest tasting Vindaloo I ever had in my life. So the whole evening was just a tat off. Maybe try again another time…

Went to Thomas Cook tonight to book my week’s holiday for the end of August. Decided to be unreasonable and forsook (sounds weird, is that right?) 1 week at the Moevenpick in El Gouna for the Maledives. I know, a bit tight in a week, but I always wanted to dive there and stay in a proper water bungalow. Sod the costs…
Increased the living inhabitants in the flat by three – cacti, now residing on my living room couch table.
Found this really cool shop off Baghdad street selling nothing but nuts in beautiful containers. Didn’t want the nuts at all, but they wouldn’t sell the containers to me without the nuts. Oh, well….Salted peanuts anybody?

Ji had a party at home for all the teachers leaving, everybody brought lots of booze along. She doesn’t like Gin and brought it along for me…..I rediscovered the joys of G&T. I am working on my second helping. Skol! Can you believe it, I am pissed from just two….I need some food….

Have been up really late the last couple of nights. Last night till 2.30. And for what? Harry Potter! I am having a great time. Booo to all those people who say the last book is not as good as the previous ones. I like it. Yes. Absolutely.

A chill-out weekend has been planned…..After work on Thursday I will head straight for the Mena House Hotel in Giza and meet up with friends. Stay over till Saturday morning, then back to work. Thursday night we will have dinner at the superb Indian restaurant at the Mena House. Friday shopping and in the evening dinner in Zamalek, again at our favourite Korean restaurant…..

Can you believe this shit, they banned “The Matrix” from showing in Egypt. This really sucks!!!

Hey, I just came online to download my e-mails and suddenly Sadie comes on as well and we end up chatting for ages. God, how time flies, it is already one year since she and Steve left Egypt and I have been with my new company for almost 10 months…

Spent last weekend at the Katameia Golf Club. What a beautiful place. Well kept, green, nice bar and golf shop, nice pool. Does that warrant to start playing golf? It is just so time consuming and I only have one day off….but all my friends are playing….

Picked up the new Harry Potter, weheee, and went for another dinner at that Korean barbecue place in Zamalek. Was again very very good.

Oh, and the A/C was broken in the office yesterday. The thermometer peaked at 33 degrees. Was I hot and sweaty or what….at least everybody else was reeking as well, so nobody minded…

Ok, so now for a quick ending to this rather pointless entry…..I was supposed to be at a barbecue one hour ago and I still need to shower, so cherio….
...to my weblog. There probably won't be something new every day, but keep coming by and have a look what makes my day (or doesn't....). And if you have any comments, drop me a line in my guestbook!
