My Napptural Journey
December 30, 2003
Previous Day's Entry
I did okay with the hair challenge. I ended up taking my second set of twists down before Christmas. My hair was in need of a deep condition. I am still using the Lustrasilk with honey and olive oil.

I've had a lot of visitors with compliments on my hair and suggestions for my site. I appreciate the comments. I started this site because I wanted to be an inspiration to someone like I was a few months or even a few years ago. I was searching for something that I couldn't name at the time. I stumbled on a few sites and finally found my way. It's a wonderful feeling. To be free of the chemical relaxers that I didn't realize had such a hold of me. Someone asked me "why not chemicals" and my reply was "why chemicals". If I can style my hair without the use of chemical treatments (relaxers, texturizers, etc...), without the use of excessive heat, why use those harmful things if they are unnecessary. Unnecessary they are.

I want to add a question and answer page, but haven't had time to work on my site lately. I wanted to address one comment from my guestbook. Has my decision to go natural affected my workplace? The answer is no. I work in a public state office and I wear my hair in all the styles on my site. Afro puffs, two strand twists, cornrow braids, and latest style -
two puffs with flat twists in the front. Natural hair is accepted in the workplace. I think it has something to do with your attitude. If you wear your natural hair like there is something wrong, then others around you will feel the same way. I know there are people out there (like my mother) who just don't care for natural hair, but that's their personal prejudice and problem.

Reflecting back over this month, I have hit some milestones in my journey. I've achieved a hairstyle. Two puffs that I am comfortable wearing out and to work. My personal favorite is that I have worn my fro and twist out with adornments (no head bands or scarves tied around). It's a first for me. It took 7 months. I've tried in the past to wear my fro with turning it into a puff. The closest I came was a fro with a sash loosely tied.

I still no poo mostly and use an ACV rinse 1 to 2 times a month. I like to keep m rountine simple.

                                                 One Year Napptural!!!

Today I celebrate my one year nappiversary. One year today I went to the salon and had the last of my relaxed ends cut off. I have not looked back. I am loving my hair more and more each day. One year down and a lifetime to go.

My routine is still simple. No poo with Alberto VO5 Clarifying Conditioner w/ Kiwi and Lemon Squeeze and rosemary spritz. I still use the Aloe Styling Gel for puffs and for twists I used Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera Gel. I am down to four basic products. What could be better? My favorite style is the wash n go puff.

If you are thinking about going natural, do it. Let your hair be free!
