My Napptural Journey
February 28, 2003
Previous Day's Entry
This week I tried a new hair style. Little braids or plaits with spiral curls on the ends.
After washing my hair and letting it dry, I braided or plaited my hair in little individual braids down to my new growth. I roll the permed ends with perm rod rollers (the blue ones). I ended up with braids with spiral curls on the ends. I have about 2.5 inches of natural hair and 9.5 inches of relaxed hair. That may give you idea of how each braid looked.

I used Profectiv MegaGrowth Anti-Breakage Strengthener and Spartan Cornrow Magic Creme before braiding each section. Before rolling the permed ends, I used Aloe Styling Gel (alcohol free) on each section to set the braid and curl. When I took the rollers out this morning I sprayed it Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Sheen Spray.

I sectioned my head in four sections. Because I like hair in my face, the front two sections are braided down towards my face. My hair is parted in the middle. I used a rat tail comb for the parts and combed each section with a wide toothed comb. The braids are larger than micro braids, but not too big.

I have been looking for a style that would keep me from pulling in my hair everyday, but looked better cornrow braids. I don't add hair mainly because synthetic hair itches and I am too cheap to buy human hair, but my hair is long enough that I can braid without the added hair. I just can't do any style in the back. I usually just roll the ends of the braid.

I am still taking pictures and hope to have them posted soon.

I am still sporting what I have named the plaits and curls. The previous entry gives the details. I am planning to wash it this weekend and re-roll it. I took pictures of the one week later to show how the curls held up. I could really wear it another week, but it is time for a wash. I am washing my hair every week. Product build up mandates a wash to keep away itchy scalp.

next day's entry
I try to wash my hair once a week. My plan was to wash my hair with the braids in and re-roll the permed ends. I had new growth and the braids were loose. Washing with the braids eliminated the tangles. I had to redo the braids. I let my hair dry with braids in and took each down and re-braiided and re-rolled each section. Some of the sections were too big, so split them in two. The process took about 2 hours.
Feeling my new growth makes me anticipate cutting my permed end off. I may not make that year.
